Despite the addition of #1 pick Paige Bueckers, there was no immediate improvement from the Dallas Wings (0-1, 0-1 home, 0-1 ATS), who finished last season with the worst point differential in the WNBA (-7.9). Dallas was routed 99-84 at home by Minnesota on opening night and now heads into its second game of the season against the Seattle Storm (0-1, 0-1 away, 0-1 ATS) as three-point underdogs.

Seattle vs Dallas tips off at 7:00 pm CT/8:00 pm ET at College Park Center in Arlington, TX, with NBA TV providing the coverage.

The Storm are currently the +3500 sixth-favorite in the WNBA Championship odds, just ahead of Dallas in eighth at +5500

Seattle’s first game of the season wasn’t any better; the Storm were blitzed 81-59 by the Mercury in Phoenix on Saturday, losing all four quarters by at least three points. This season marks Seattle’s first without Jewell Loyd (19.7 PPG, 4.5 RPG, 3.6 APG last year) since 2015. Loyd was traded to Las Vegas in a three-team deal that saw the Storm acquire center Li Yueru and the #2 pick in the 2025 draft, which the Storm turned into 6’6 French center Dominique Malonga.

Malonga played just nine minutes in her WNBA debut, scoring two points on 1-of-2 shooting with no rebounds and no assists.

Bueckers’ WNBA debut was slightly more successful. The former UConn star had ten points, seven rebounds, and two assists in 29 minutes but was just 3-of-10 from the floor and 0-of-2 from beyond the arc with two turnovers.

Dallas’ roster underwent a ton of turnover in the offseason, losing Natasha Howard (17.6 PPG, 6.7 RPG, 2.9 APG in 2024) to the Fever and Satou Sabally (17.9 PPG, 6.4 RPG, 5.0 APG in 2024) to the Mercury, while bringing in DiJonai Carrington (12.7 PPG, 5.0 RPG, 1.6 APG in 2024) and Myisha Hines-Allen (17.7 PPG, 3.1 RPG, 4.2 APG in 2024).

Dallas’ offense played reasonably well in Friday’s loss but their defense, particularly interior defense, was a disaster. Minnesota shot 53% from the field and 61% from two, led by a massive 34-point night from forward Napheesa Collier.

Seattle, meanwhile, could hardly buy a bucket on Saturday, going just 33% from the floor and 18% from three.

Arike Ogunbowale (22.2 PPG, 5.1 RPG, 2.1 APG in 2024) leads the point totals on Monday at 19.5 O/U. The Notre Dame product was limited to just 16 in the season-opener on an ugly 4-of-12 performance from the floor in 28 minutes (and 8-of-8 form the free-throw line.

Nneka Ogwumike (16.7 PPG, 7.6 RPG, 2.3 APG in 2024) has the highest total on the Seattle side at 17.5 O/U. Ogwumike was expected to be the biggest statistical beneficiary of Loyd’s absence but she accounted for just 12 points on Saturday, taking just ten field-goal attempts.

SEA Storm vs DAL Wings Picks & Predictions

  • Wings moneyline (+135) at bet365
  • Paige Bueckers over 13.5 (-100) at Caesars

The Storm dominated the Wings last year, going 4-0 with an eight-point win (92-84) in Dallas on June 13 and a two-point win (83-81) in Big D on September 13. But it’s hard not to be concerned by Seattle’s disastrous performance on Saturday, when the Storm offense was in shambles against a not-particularly-good Mercury defense.

Ogwumike and Diggins are both in their mid/late 30s now and it’s not unreasonable to assume they’re in decline, and the Storm didn’t really do anything to address the loss of Loyd’s production. Dominique Malonga is a longer-term project.

I expect Bueckers to be more aggressive now that she has her feet wet. A parlay with the Wings moneyline (+130) and Bueckers over 13.5 points (-100) pays out at +301 at Caesars.
