Entering the game, the Aces are listed as 5.5-point favorites over the Storm.

Aces Riding High Off Sweep

Las Vegas is coming off of breezing through the first round of the playoffs, ending the best-of-three series early with a sweep of the eighth-seeded Mercury. The Aces took both games in that series with relative ease, winning both games by an average of 26.5 points.

Las Vegas is a team that has been viewed as one of the favorites, if not the top favorite, to win the league title entering the postseason. The Aces are the top team in the 2022 WNBA Championship odds at -105, while the Storm are the lowest remaining team with odds of +500.

The Aces rely heavily on their starting lineup, and that group has shined the entire season and once again in the postseason while featuring one of the top offensive squads in the WNBA. Las Vegas will look to continue that trend in the semifinals while squaring off against a tough defensive team, with Seattle ranking third in the league in defensive rating during the regular season.

Storm Betting Outlook

Seattle takes on the semifinal round after sweeping Washington in the opening round, although that series was closer and more back-and-forth than what the end result ended up being. Still, the Storm are a team that could be viewed as an underdog as the lowest remaining seed left in the playoffs.

Seattle has shown the ability to step up to any task, and it did just that over the first two games of the postseason thus far against Washington. The veteran-filled Storm have a unique balance of offensive firepower and defensive prominence that could give the Aces fits as a new series begins in the semifinals.

Don’t be surprised to see Seattle surprise some early on in the series and make things closer than some may initially think against the top-seeded and title favorite Las Vegas with a trip to the championship series on the line.

What to Watch For

In a series that will feature seven former No. 1 overall draft picks, the battle between Las Vegas and Seattle could be the more entertaining of the two series taking place in the semifinals. Both teams are eager to take advantage of this opportunity, with the Aces trying to capitalize on a stellar season to this point to finally crack the championship code and the Storm attempting to put together one final run at a title with a veteran-filled roster that could look much different next season.

One of the biggest things to watch for throughout the series will be which team will be able to take a stand and hold the opposition in check defensively. Both Seattle and Las Vegas feature talented offenses that can put up points in a hurry, so it will be about which team can limit the other in key points in the game to come away in victory.

The Storm hold a slight edge over the Aces on the defensive end, but Las Vegas has been the best offensive squad all season which could impact the series right out of the gate. Whichever team can ultimately come up with stops at key points in each game will do just enough to advance in the postseason.

Storm vs Aces Picks

Las Vegas enters Game 1 as decent favorites over Seattle, holding a 5.5-point spread entering Sunday’s contest. Part of the reason is the Aces performance at home this year, holding a record of 13-5 in Las Vegas during the regular season. The Storm, on the other hand, were just 9-9 on the road this summer as they attempt to take one or two games away from home.

To begin the series, expect a close battle between two talented squads, but we will likely see the Aces continue their solid play of late carry into Sunday’s Game 1. In the end, Las Vegas will take a 1-0 series lead to inch closer to a WNBA Finals birth.

For the best bet of the game, go with the over on the total of 170.5 points listed for a combined score. In four games this season, these two teams averaged a combined 176.1 points, and that type of showing could occur once again Sunday.
