Just like Patrick Mahomes the year before, Lamar Jackson exploded in his second season in the NFL, throwing for 36 touchdowns and adding another seven rushing. He broke the single-season record for rushing yards by a quarterback with 1,206 and posted a very impressive 113.3 passer rating.

As a result, he took home the 2019 NFL MVP award. But as you can see, he wasn’t always the favorite.
