More notes on major line movements:

  • [May 23] With Southampton’s assured relegation and Nottingham Forest’s safety now secured, there are three teams hoping to avoid the drop. Everton are two points clear of both Leicester City and Leeds going into the final weekend, meaning the only way the Toffees can guarantee themselves a spot in the top flight next season is with a win over Bournemouth.
  • [Apr 19] With consecutive wins against Spurs and Leicester, Bournemouth have breathing room at the bottom of the table. The Cherries are now six points clear of the drop zone, as their Relegation odds move from +225 to +1200.
  • [Apr 12] Leicester and Nottingham Forest both continue their respective slides into the relegation zone, earning a single point between the two clubs since the start of April.
  • [Mar 21] With only one point in their last five matches, Leicester now sits only one point out of the drop zone, as their odds to be relegated have shortened from +800 to +400.
  • [Feb 28] A win over Southampton last weekend has pulled Leeds out of the bottom three and moved their relegation odds to +200
  • [Feb 23] Bournemouth and Southampton are heavy favorites for the drop as February comes to a close in the EPL
  • [Dec 20] With the EPL set to resume on Boxing Day, each of Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth and Wolves are odds-on for relegation
  • [Oct 25] As October winds down it is Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth at odds-on, -225 and -200 to suffer relegation. After a 2-3-7 start, Wolves are 19th in the table and have +130 odds for the drop
  • [Aug 3] Nottingham Forest is getting some love from bettors, at their relegation odds have lengthened from -132 to +123. Meanwhile, Bournemouth have become heavier favorites to go down at -225, where they were once -149
  • [May 30] Bournemouth (-135), Nottingham Forest (-135), and Fulham (+120) have all been promoted to the EPL, and all three are in the top favorites to suffer relegation in the early 2023 odds

Fulham finished atop of the Championship table in 2022 with 90 points and a 27-9-10 record. Bournemouth finished right behind in second with 88 points. Both earned automatic promotion to the Premier League for the 2022/23 season.

Nottingham was fourth in the Championship with 80 points and needed to go through the promotion playoffs to earn their spot. They first advanced 4-3 on aggregate over two legs versus Sheffield United. That set up a playoff final against Huddersfield that saw them win 1-0.

The promotion playoff final is known as the “most valuable game in soccer worldwide”. This is because the profit earned for participating in the EPL is massive. Nottingham is instantly entitled to $200 million for earning promotion.
