Prop bets for soccer are massive worldwide, and with the 2026 World Cup coming to North America, you can expect them to explode in the US this summer.

US sportsbooks will be featuring World Cup odds, and that will include large libraries of World Cup props.

Prop bets for the World Cup will cover outcomes not tied to the final score, so lets dive into the world of betting on goal scorers, corner kicks and yes, even red cards.

Best Player Props to Know for World Cup Betting

Top-rated sports betting apps will be providing a wide range of World Cup player prop markets.

I recommend exploring them all, as this will be the biggest soccer betting event of the year, by far, and won’t be replicated for another four years.

Here are some player props that will be most bet during the World Cup:

Goalscorer Markets

Goalscorer prop bets in soccer are very similar to touchdown scorer bets in (the other) football.

They come in different forms, and add some extra action to the most exciting plays in the sport – goals!

  • Anytime, First and Last Goalscorer: As their names suggest, you can pick a player to score at any time during the game, score the first goal of the game or the last goal of the game. When looking into anytime goalscorer bets, make sure to target players who take penalties and free kicks, as well as recent form. Soccer is very much a momentum sport, and players who are finding the back of the net are typically playing with a confidence that leads to more.
  • To Score 2+ or Hat Trick: These are high-risk, high-reward bets, and US sports betting sites will often offer them with boosted odds. Players like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo would have 2+ goal scoring odds that matched anytime goal-scorer odds for other players during their peaks. Now that’s reserved for Erling Haaland – and, let’s be real, sometimes Messi.

Assist Props (Over/Under, Milestones)

Some of the best offensive players in the game are not necessarily goal scorers. But don’t fret, you can bet on assists.

Assist props can be listed as over/under markets or milestones (1+, 2+, etc.).

Finding play-making midfielders, CAMs, false 9s and fullbacks who are setting up their teammates can make assist props a profitable endeavor in the World Cup. Players like Florian Wirtz and Jude Bellingham, who are not only playmakers but surrounded by elite scoring talent, fit this profile.

It’s also wise to monitor what a player’s role will be on their national team, as it could differ from what they’re expected to do for their club.

Shot on Target (SOT) Over/Under

You can also bet on how many shots on target a player will have. This means a shot that either goes in or forces a save from the goalkeeper. A shot that sails over the bar will not count.

Here you want to identify players who are target men for their team, like strikers and wingers, as well as free-kick takers. Basically the same folks you are targeting for goalscorer bets.

Player to Be Booked (Yellow or Red Card)

Yes, you can bet on a player to receive a yellow or red card. With these bets, you will want to look mostly toward defenders and defensive midfielders, as they’re most likely to be put into position to have to foul and draw a card.

But players with a history of getting carded, Luis Suarez and Sergio Ramos immediately come to mind, can be researched, too.

Cards accumulate in the World Cup, meaning so many yellows can mean a suspension for a later game. That doesn’t affect your bet, but it should be taken into account while researching.

World Cup Team Props & Exotic Bets

The World Cup may bring out the game’s biggest stars, but it’s also the ultimate team game, where country’s who have the most familiarity and cohesiveness can overcome a lack of big names.

Well, you can bet on that, too! World Cup betting will include plenty of team props.

World Cup 2026 Prop Betting

Team Scoring Props

  • Team to Score First/Last: This one is simple, as you are betting on which team will score first or last in a game. Scoring first is typically an easier bet to make, as the stronger team in a soccer match typically does that. Betting on which team will score last is a much bigger risk.
  • Team Total Goals (Over/Under): I love these bets, as they are an alternative to the game’s total, and often a way to find better odds. It’s a good place to find an Under for a massive underdog, or an Over for a big favorite, as you are only looking at how many goals one of the teams scores, not both.
  • To Win to Nil: Here you’re betting on a team to win its game and keep a clean sheet, or win with a shutout. You’re getting longer odds here, but good value can be found in a team that has proven to be tough to break down defensively. It’s also a good way to get decent value out of a powerhouse like Spain or Brazil playing a low-level opponent.

Game Flow Props

  • Total Corners (Over/Under): Betting on the number of corners taken in a game is one way to wager on how you believe the flow of the game will go. For teams that like to attack over the top or from the wing with crosses sent into the box – think England or Brazil – you can expect more corners, as desperate clearances are more necessary. Teams that play more of a possession game, like Spain’s Golden Age, will get fewer corners, as they’re happy to pass the ball around the attacking area until a chance presents itself.
  • Total Cards (Over/Under): Look to potential regional rivalries here, or a situation where a team will be forced to play in a more defensive posture. You could also target CONCACAF teams here, and probably do OK with Overs.

World Cup Same Game Parlay (SGP) Strategy

A lot of these prop bets are going to end up as part of World Cup same-game parlays. But before you dive into a World Cup SGP, make sure you’re using the right strategies, and avoiding the wrong ones.

Finding Correlated Bets for World Cup SGPs

When putting together a parlay featuring wagers in a single game, they should make sense together.

If you’re betting on Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams each to score, it would make sense to also pick Spain to win, or maybe include the Over, either for the game or Spain’s total goals.

Argentina’s team total going Over and Messi, Julian Alvarez and Alexis Mac Allister to each have 1+ shot on target is a correlated bet, as they’re major contributors to Argentina’s offensive output.

Avoid Contradictory Bets

Building a SGP is not a good time to hedge or play both sides, as you want to avoid bets that aren’t correlated.

There are obvious combinations to avoid, like Over 3.5 goals and a 1-0 final. That bet has, literally, zero chance of winning.

It’s also not wise to combine multiple goal scorers from a single team with the other team winning or the Under. These are possible outcomes, sure, but threading that needle is incredibly difficult.

Strategic WC Prop Betting Tips

Here are some general strategies to consider when betting on World Cup props:

Line Shopping is Essential

This is true for all betting, but specifically for props where there’s less consensus between the sportsbooks.

DraftKings might be offering Harry Kane Over/Under 1.5 shots on target as their baseline, while bet365 might have 2.5.

Goalscorers, typically outside of the biggest names, can also have significant differences in their odds. You could find Phil Foden anytime goalscorer at +200 at FanDuel, but +230 at BetMGM.

To effectively line shop, find an outcome you like, and check every sportsbook app you have downloaded on your phone to get the best value.

Check the Starting XI

Soccer is a sport with minimal substitutions, meaning that if a player isn’t in the starting lineup, there’s no guarantee they will see the field.

So, as a bettor, it’s wise to check the lineup before placing your bet. Typically they are released an hour before the game kicks off.

It’s also a sport where, if you are subbed off, you cannot return to the pitch. This has frustrated many a prop bettor over the years. If you’re betting at bet365, however, you can avoid that pitfall by opting in for the Sub Off, Play On feature, which will pay out your bet if the player who subs in for your player finishes off the prop.

Format Matters

There are two stages to the World Cup: Group Stage and Knockout Rounds.

During the Group Stage, teams are vying for points to advance to the knockouts. This is where we get more mismatches and results that tend to be more predictable.

That allows for better accuracy predicting team props and performance.

In the knockouts, the matchups are bigger and the games get tighter. Here’s where the biggest and best players can separate themselves.

Prop Bets for the Host Nation (USMNT)

The United States Men’s National Team will be getting the most eyes on it here in US as it tries to make a run on home soil.

That means there will be plenty of betting interest on the USMNT, as well.

High value USMNT player props will include Christian Pulisic goalscorer, shots on target and assist props, as he is the engine that drives the US offense.

Gio Reyna, assuming he sees more playing time than he has in the past, would be another playmaker to consider for assists. Then there are the enforcers in the midfield – Tyler Adams and Weston McKennie – who are probably worth a look for card props.
