- Daniel Jones had 336 passing yards and four total touchdowns in his first NFL start.
- Jones has already equaled the amount of touchdowns Kyler Murray has accumulated so far.
- Jones was at +2100 before being named the starter but he’s now the favorite to win Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Daniel Jones got his first start of the season this past Sunday and he put on a show. The sixth overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft led the Giants back from 18 points down in the second half to give them a 32-31 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Jones is now favored in the NFL OROY odds, but considering his team’s situation and supporting cast, is he the best bet to win it?

Jones Impresses Against Bucs
The Giants were heavily criticized for drafting Jones so early in the 2019 NFL Draft but nobody is mocking them anymore. Jones lit it up in his first NFL start, going 23-of-36 for 336 yards, two touchdowns and no picks. He added another two rushing touchdowns – including the game-winning play.
It’s not just the numbers as Jones looked the part of an NFL starter in his first start. He was putting the ball in tight windows and picking apart a defense that many thought was decent through two weeks of action.
More impressive was that he put the team on his back and brought them back from 18 down.

Now might be a good time to add that he did this without Saquon Barkley in the lineup, who left in the first half. Jones finished the day with a 112.7 quarterback rating, it was about as impressive of a debut as a player can have.
Jacobs, Murray Stumble
While Josh Jacobs and Kyler Murray were the favorites going into the week, both faded significantly.
Murray had just 173 passing yards on 43 attempts with two touchdowns and two interceptions. It was the first time this season that he’s thrown for less than 300 yards.
As for Jacobs, he also had his worst effort of the season as he had just 44 yards on 10 carries. It also looks like the Oakland Raiders offense is going to struggle this season, so his trajectory has also changed as a result of that.

Even Marquise “Hollywood” Brown had a bit of a quiet week as he had just two catches for 49 yards with no touchdowns. He had nine targets go his way but only managed those two catches. It looks like the Ravens offense is not the juggernaut it looked like in Week’s 1 and 2 when they played feeble competition.
Terry McLaurin Worth A Look?
One player who could be worth keeping an eye on is Washington Redskins wide receiver Terry McLaurin. He’s the first ‘Skins receiver to have three touchdowns in his first three games since Hall of Famer Charley Taylor did it in 1962.
McLaurin really pulled that one in between the defenders ? @TheTerry_25 pic.twitter.com/gufC2OPEnt

McLaurin has 257 receiving yards to go with the three touchdowns, which would put him on pace for 1370 yards. If he keeps this up, he’s going to be among the finalists but few people are talking about him in terms of this prop.
What’s The Best Bet?
Jones has vaulted into the lead in for Offensive Rookie of the Year  and he deserves it.
He was at +2100 before being named the starter to +970 after he got the job and now he’s at the front of the pack. I’d say the value is gone at this point. We’ve kind of missed the boat, so don’t overreact.

Jones is going to get an easy game against Washington next week but after that, the Giants host the Minnesota Vikings, go to the New England Patriots, come home to face the Arizona Cardinals, then go to Detroit and host Dallas. There are some tough games in there.
“Danny Dimes” feasted this week but I want to see a little bit more from him before locking in a bet. I don’t think this was a one-off and he does look like the real deal, but now is not the best time to bet him for this prop as the value has been sucked out.
