The New York Rangers have excelled against the New Jersey Devils. They have had an easy time with their Hudson River “rivals” including two shutouts. Puck drop is Sunday, April 18th, 2021 at 3 PM EST, with Artemi Panarin and New York a solid favorite again in the Rangers vs Devils odds.
Overall, New Jersey has won just two out of the seven meetings so far this season. New York has outscored New Jersey 25-7 in the past five games — all New York wins.

New Jersey Keeps Losing At Home
The bettors hammered the New York Rangers moneyline and puckline on Tuesday and Thursday with over half going on both. It proved to be profitable as New York outscored New Jersey 7-0. It did not matter that New Jersey outplayed the Rangers at even strength. Special teams have been abysmal as the New Jersey penalty kill is at 69% over its last 16 games. The power play has been equally as bad (29th in that span).

Let these numbers sink in a bit. New Jersey has lost 14 of their last 16 contests at Prudential Center. Both wins were by just one goal, and yes, one was against the Pittsburgh Penguins on March 16th.
The Devils have struggled in all phases at home more often than on the road. Defense and goaltending have become even bigger problems. Then last week the offense vanished completely when they were shut out at home 3-0 by the New York Rangers on Tuesday night. New Jersey cannot get out of their way — especially their youth.
Youth Enduring Growing Pains
The Devils are now the youngest team in the NHL. Though the New York Rangers are not too far behind at just a little past 25. Part of the reason they’ve struggled so badly is the following:

Granted, there was the trade of Kyle Palmieri and Travis Zajac but that occurred more than a week and a half ago. New Jersey is basically fielding what feels like a pre-season squad against the Rangers in this four-game series and it shows.
Devils Hampered With Injuries and Costly Errors
New Jersey has little or no luck at all. Pavel Zacha and Jesper Bratt are still both day to day with injuries and are questionable for Sunday afternoon. It tends to help to have two of a team’s top-six forwards
New Jersey had a goal differential of -18 in their last four games versus the New York Rangers and fell behind 4-0 on Saturday early due to a constant wave of repetitive mistakes. They came back and rallied for three goals, but ultimately lost 6-3 at MSG.

As for New York, injuries have not been as much of an issue and now Pavel Buchnevich is scoring again with a hat trick. Artemi Panarin had another multiple point-effort. New York scored twice more on the power play. For added insult to injury, New Jersey took a too many men on the ice penalty on the penalty kill.
Rangers vs Devils Best Bet
The Rangers and Devils both play their third game in four days on this Sunday afternoon matinee. Scott Wedgewood may start for the New Jersey Devils and Alexandar Georgiev for the Rangers.
New York has been surging and New Jersey has just two wins in their previous 11 games. It may be a slightly closer game, but Artemi Panarin and the New York Rangers on the moneyline and puckline are the picks for Sunday, April 18th.
Pick: Rangers Moneyline (-200), Rangers Puckline (+125)
