Cornhuskers vs Hoosiers Betting Trends

Saturday afternoon’s matchup marks the first of two regular season meetings between these Big ten Conference rivals. The Hoosiers have dominated in head-to-head action with Nebraska, posting straight up wins in each of their past four clashes, while covering in their past three. Indiana marched to an 84-76 road win in their last date with the Huskers in mid-January, and has now averaged 92.8 points per game. That steady production has spawned a 4-0 run for the OVER in totals betting when these teams meet.

Indiana also enjoys a current 3-0 ATS road on home hardwood, where they have also tallied six straight outright wins this season. Nebraska has settled down since opening its schedule with three straight ATS defeats, covering in four of their past five, including Wednesday’s 104-100 loss at North Carolina State as a 6.5-point road underdog.

Nebraska Cornhuskers Outlook

The Cornhuskers kicked off their road schedule on Wednesday with a loss by the narrowest of margins, dropping a 104-100 decision to the NC State Wolfpack in a clash that took four overtime periods to schedule. With the loss, the Huskers saw a four-game SU win streak, while also extending an epic slide on the road during which the squad has posted just one SU win in 31 away contests since January 2019.

Things have not gone much better for the Cornhuskers in conference play. Nebraska has nowhere to go but up after closing out last season with a dismal 3-16 SU record in conference play, and a second straight last-place finish in the Big Ten Conference standings. The club has also posted two total SU road wins against conference rivals since February 2018.

However, the Huskers’ 5-3 SU start has raised the hopes of their long suffering fans. Bryce McGowens has given them plenty to cheer about in his collegiate debut. The freshman guard leads the team in scoring with 18.5 points per game after racking up 24 points on Wednesday night. Senior Alonzo verge Jr. has also been a steady contributor, recording three double-doubles so far this season, capped by a 25-point, 10-rebound, 8-assist performance in Wednesday’s defeat.

Indiana Hoosiers Outlook

The Hoosiers are also regrouping from an overtime loss after being outlasted in a 112-110 defeat by Syracuse on Tuesday that took two extra frames to settle. The defeat puts the brakes on a six-game SU win streak to open their schedule, with each of those wins coming at home, and their three most recent victories coming by a combined margin on 78 points. While the fell short in this week’s loss to the Orange as 3-point favorites, they managed to cover in four of their previous five, and now sport a 4-1 ATS record this season while pegged as double-digit chalk.

The challenge for Indiana is overcoming their dismal performance in conference play last season. The Hoosiers closed out last season with six straight SU and ATS losses to conference rivals, while falling to defeat by an average of 10 points per game during that stretch.

Trayce Jackson-Davis is once again expected to play a huge role for the Hoosiers on Saturday afternoon after closing out November with a pair of monster outings. On the heels of a breakthrough career-best 43-point performance in the Hoosiers’ 90-79 win over Marshall last weekend, the sophomore big man racked up a game-high 31 points and 16 rebounds in Tuesday’s loss to Syracuse. Not surprisingly, Jackson-Davis currently leads the team with 22.0 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 3.7 blocks per game.

The Picks: Hoosiers -11.5 (-110); OVER 142.5 (-115)
