The sharps made a huge play on the under in this game, driving the total drastically down after it opened at 47.5. Miami has gone under the total in four of their last six road games, and the Hurricanes have been under on four of their last six anywhere. The line moved from 5.5 to 6 with the news that top Miami receiver Xavier Restrepo will miss the game with a foot injury.
Texas A&M Looks to Regroup
The Aggies were dominated in a 17-14 loss to Appalachian State last Saturday, a game they gave $1.5 million to the Mountaineers to schedule. A&M was not alone — Sun Belt teams Marshall and Georgia Southern also were paid big money to beat Power Five opponents on the road last Saturday.
Fun facts:
-App State was paid $1.5mm to play Texas A&M
-GA Southern $1.423mm to play Nebraska
-Marshall $1.25mm to play Notre DameI'd say, money well spent.

The blame started with coach Jimbo Fisher, who said Monday that he “possibly could” relinquish play-calling duties after the Aggies scored only one offensive touchdown. They had 186 yards in total offense and nine first downs, and quarterback Haynes King completed 13 of 20 passes for 97 yards for a team that has work to do to reach its expected total in the CFB win totals odds.
The Aggies rank No. 103 in NCAA Division I in total offense, averaging 338.5 yards of total offense as the schedule toughens up when SEC play begins. But the problem is not new. A&M was 71st in total offense last season (392.4 yards per game) and was 56th in scoring offense at 29.3 points per game.
Power 5 QB with the lowest QBR this season
Spencer Petras, Iowa 3.4
JT Shrout, Colorado 13.8
Haynes King, Texas A&M 33.1
Adrian Martinez, K-State 34.0
Brennan Armstrong, Virginia 35.0— Chris Fallica (@chrisfallica) September 12, 2022
The A&M defense was adequate against Appalachian State … until it mattered. The Mountaineers had an 11-play, 62-yard, 6:22 touchdown drive to take a 14-7 lead in the third quarter. They followed that with an 18-play, 63-yard, 9:15 drive for the winning field goal in the fourth quarter.
Van Dyke in Heisman Territory
Tyler Van Dyke has become a star after stepping into the Hurricanes’ starting lineup a year ago. Van Dyke pivot passed for at least 300 and three touchdowns in the final six games of the 2021 regular season, and he finished with 2,931 yards, 25 touchdowns and six interceptions.
The 1st pick in the 2023 NFL Draft will be…
+200: CJ Stroud
+225: Bryce Young
+330: Will Anderson
+1000: Paris Johnson
+1500: Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Phil Jurkovec
+1800: Tyler Van Dyke
+2000: Spencer Rattler pic.twitter.com/9sm0pF8cwq— DraftKings Sportsbook (@DKSportsbook) May 3, 2022
Van Dyke’s string of seven straight games with multiple touchdown passes ended in the 30-7 victory over Southern Miss last week, but he remains a top candidate in the Heisman Trophy odds.
Miami is Well-Rounded
Despite all the hype surrounding Van Dyke, the Hurricanes are not a one-man team in new coach Mario Cristobal’s return. Miami is 16th in NCAA Division I in both total offense (518 yards per game) and rushing offense (239.5) while averaging 278.5 yards passing, which ranks 41st.

Miami high school product and Ole Miss transfer running back Henry Parrish Jr. has 271 yards rushing and four touchdowns while averaging 5.9 yards per carry, extending the success he had in Oxford where he had 553 yards rushing and a 5.3 per-carry average last year. Expected starter Jaylan Knighton missed the opener and had only six carries against Southern Miss.
Injury Update
Miami will be without a key component in slot receiver Xavier Restrepo, who will be out indefinitely because of a foot injury apparently suffered in practice this week. Restrepo, Van Dyke’s roommate, has 11 receptions for 172 yards and a touchdown. Restrepo is being counted on to fill the void created when Hurricanes’ record-setting receivers Charleston Rambo and Mike Harley did not return.
Restrepo says Texas A&M has one of the best DB rooms in the nation. “You have to respect them but you have to make them respect you.”

Hurricanes’ edge rusher Akheem Mesidor is expected to play after missing the Southern Miss game with an undisclosed but minor injury.
Miami vs Texas A&M Prediction
It is not that A&M lost to Appalachian State, which always has been a better program than people know; it’s the way the Mountaineers de-cleated the Aggies in controlling both lines. It’s dangerous to overreact to an early upset, but the Aggies have not been particularly resilient since beating Alabama a year ago. Their last two victories are against FCS teams, and they beat only two teams with a winning record in 2021 — the Crimson Tide and 7-6 South Carolina.
Miami’s record since Van Dyke took over is impressive, but Restrepo will be missed against a good A&M secondary.
