The Minnesota Vikings (14-3 in 2024) and Chicago Bears (5-12 in 2024) open the slate of Monday Night Football games with a classic battle. Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy is slated to make his NFL debut, while the Bears’ Ben Johnson will make his head coaching debut. Last season, the Vikings swept the season series, marking the third time they have done that in the previous four seasons.
Despite the Vikings’ recent dominance in the series, the public is backing the Bears to cover as home underdogs on Monday night.
Minnesota Vikings vs Chicago Bears Public-Betting Splits
As of Monday morning, the Bears are getting 79% of the ATS handle as 2.5-point home underdogs despite only 40% of ATS bets coming in on the Bears. The Vikings have 21% of the ATS handle, with a whopping 60% of ATS bets coming in on the side of the Vikings. One bettor who is not backing the Vikings is my teammate Chris Amberley, who is taking the Bears to cover +1.5 under new head coach Ben Johnson in his Vikings vs Bears Picks & Predictions.

In terms of handle, the moneyline is pretty evenly split with 52% of the handle going to the Vikings while 48% of the handle goes to the Bears. The moneyline wagers on the Bears have been larger on average as their bets only account for 30% of bets but 48% of the handle leans Chicago.
The under has seen the majority of the action with 84% of the handle and 92% of bets coming in on the under. The over only accounts for 16% of the handle and 8% of bets in the latest NFL public betting percentages. The total opened at 45.5 on some books, but it has dropped two points to 43.5.

MIN Vikings vs CHI Bears Injury Reports
The Vikings have been hit hard by the injury bug as they have already ruled out three players according to their injury report. The Bears have more of a positive outlook with four of the five players on their injury report listed as questionable.
Veteran safety Harrison Smith will be sorely missed in Minnesota’s secondary. The 36-year-old stalwart is dealing with an illness. Last season, he was tied for second on the team in both interceptions and passes defended.
Christian Darrisaw could make his highly anticipated return after missing 10 games in the 2024 season. While Darrisaw has missed multiple games in all four of his seasons, 2024 was the first time he played fewer than 12 games. Without Darrisaw, the Vikings had major issues along the offensive line as the 2024 season unfolded.
One player not mentioned on the injury report is the suspended Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison. Addison will miss the first three games of the season, and the Vikings traded for Adam Thielen in his absence. Star receiver Justin Jefferson is not on the injury ledger after being limited throughout training camp.
On the Bears’ side, they will be hoping that cornerback Jaylon Johnson can go. Johnson has made the Pro Bowl in each of the last two seasons, and he is widely viewed as a top-10 cornerback. Last year, he had two interceptions and a forced fumble.
Both T.J. Edwards and Kyler Gordon join Johnson in Chicago’s ideal defense. Edwards led the Bears with 12 tackles for loss in 2024, while Gordon occupies the all-important nickel role in Chicago’s defense.
