The National League East crown will undoubtedly come right down to the wire and Sunday’s series finale between the New York Mets (98-60, 47-33 away) and Atlanta Braves (99-59, 54-26 home) is going to be huge for the outcome in this division.
The first pitch is scheduled for 7:08 pm ET.
In the rubber match, Chris Bassitt takes the mound for NY. The Braves counter with Charlie Morton, who just received a one-year extension on Friday.

The Braves are a -125 favorite here and after Saturday’s victory, it’s now five wins in their last six against the Mets.

Mets vs Braves Probable Pitchers
Bassitt has been tremendous for the Mets this year, going 15-8 with a 3.27 ERA in 29 starts. He’s struck out 165 in 179 innings and walked just 46, putting his impressive command on full display. The righty also boasts an impressive 1.13 WHIP.

Last time out against the A’s, Bassitt absolutely diced against his former club, tossing eight innings of two-run baseball and allowing just six hits. That was on September 23rd, which means the veteran will be well-rested for Sunday.
He’s also looked good vs. Atlanta in 2022, compiling a 2.77 ERA in two outings.
Bassitt vs Morton
15-8 | Record | 9-6 |
3.27 | ERA | 4.29 |
179 | Innings Pitched | 167.2 |
165 | Strikeouts | 200 |
46 | BB | 62 |
It hasn’t been the usual dominant campaign for Morton, one of the more consistent pitchers across the Majors in the last few years. But, he’s still battling for the Braves, going 9-6 with a 4.29 ERA.
The strikeout stuff is still there, sitting down 200 batters in 167.2 innings, but Morton is slightly wild at times, giving up 62 walks.

Unfortunately, September was a rough month for him, posting an ERA of well over five. In his last start, Morton allowed six earned to the Phillies in just 4.2 frames. Although he’s struggled against New York this year (4.67 ERA), the 38-year-old is drastically more effective at home, where his ERA drops to 2.88.
NL East Title Hinges on Sunday
For quite some time, it looked like the Mets would take the NL East. But, you can never count out the defending World Series champions, who have been playing very good baseball as of late.
New York has already clinched a playoff spot for the first time since 2016, but they want this division. Sunday’s game between two favorites in the World Series odds will play a key part in that happening.

Morton is a tough opponent, but the Mets hit him well. Pete Alonso is slashing .313 off the righty, while the lineup as a whole has slugged six total homers off Morton. There is no better time to come through with a big performance.
The Braves got off to a slow start in 2022 but since the beginning of July, they’re 54-28 and sitting towards the top of the Majors in various categories. Atlanta ranks third in runs with 4.9 per game, eighth in average, and second in home runs, much in part to Austin Riley’s 38 long balls.
Matt Olson also has 31 homers. On the mound, NL Rookie of the Year Odds favorite Spencer Strider is leading the staff, pitching to a 2.67 ERA.

Brian Snitker’s squad doesn’t typically score a lot against Bassitt, but there are numerous guys throughout the lineup who have enjoyed success versus him. Austin Riley and Eddie Rosario are both hitting .500 with Bassitt on the hill, while Ronald Acuna Jr is batting .400.
It’s a small sample size for all three, though.

Mets vs Braves Pick
The Mets just lost the first two games of this massive series. They need a win badly and I truly believe Bassitt is going to throw a gem and set the tone. Take New York on the moneyline to stay alive in the NL East race.
