Finally, the Eagles fell back to reality, getting stunned by the NFC East rival Washington Commanders on Monday Night Football last week. Nobody thought Philadelphia (8-1, 5-4 ATS) would seriously threaten the 1972 Dolphins’ perfect season, but to lose in the manner they did at home after starting the year with eight wins was a surprise. Read on for an analysis of the Philadelphia Eagles vs Indianapolis Colts.

The Eagles look to get back on track on Sunday, November 20th on CBS when they take on the Colts (4-5-1, 4-6 ATS) who are 1-0 under new head coach Jeff Saturday. Kickoff is at 1:00 pm ET in Indianapolis and the roof at Lucas Oil Stadium is expected to be closed, so the weather shouldn’t play a factor here.

One place where the Eagles are still undefeated is on the road where Philadelphia are 6.5-point favorites in the NFL odds over the Colts. Let’s check out some more odds below while giving you our analysis and prediction for this matchup.

The spread is closing as Philly dropped from a converted touchdown to a 6.5-point favorite in the NFL odds. As of Friday night, 66% of the spread bets were on the Eagles, but only 44% of the spread handle were riding with the chalk.

Philadelphia Eagles Betting Analysis

One area where the Eagles have been struggling and got severely exposed last week against Washington is with their rush defense. They rank 20th in the league allowing 124.8 yards per game, not the spot you’d expect to find one of the top contenders in the Super Bowl odds. It’s in stark contrast to their pass defense that ranks second in the NFL.

The Commanders dominated the ground and the time of possession last week carrying the ball 49 times for 152 yards. It’s a disturbing trend for the Eagles who are one of nine teams that have allowed an average of over 150 yards rushing over their last three games.

To plug those holes, Philly went out and signed a couple of leak-stopping run stuffers in Linval Joseph and Ndamukong Suh. Both beefy vets are proven commodities but are well past their prime, and even if they’ve been training on their own, can’t be anywhere near game-shape-ready.

Whether one or both play or not is yet to be determined as Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni was keeping tight-lipped about his team’s plan for the defensive linemen. Nevertheless, don’t expect a major impact from either player even if they see their first game action since last year.

Indianapolis Colts Betting Analysis

The Colts are facing a pretty good situation on Sunday as expectations are the Eagles should bounce back from their first loss for an easy victory, but this Indy team has other ideas. Philly’s struggle coalesce quite nicely with the Colts’ strength — the run game.

Last week, Indy rushed for over 200 yards as a team to get Saturday the win in his first game. The Eagles should prepare to see a healthy dose of Jonathan Taylor on Sunday. The Indy tailback carried the ball 22 times for 147 yards after missing the previous week’s game with an injury and the game plan will be to get the ball in his hands as much as possible again.

Quarterback Matt Ryan also did the unimaginable and reeled off a career-best, 39-yard scramble to convert a third-and-3 in the fourth quarter that led to his winning touchdown pass two plays later. Indianapolis has only lost three of eight games started by the 37-year-old pivot this year.

Eagles vs Colts Prediction

While we’ve focused on the matchup between the Colts’ rush attack and Philly’s run defense, another key confrontation to watch out for is the Eagles’ air attack vs Indy’s pass defense.

The Colts have the 7th-ranked pass defense in the league and will be looking to make a statement against NFL MVP odds candidate Jalen Hurts. Monday Night Football didn’t treat Hurts too kindly as he completed 17 of 26 passes for just 175 yards.

Eagles vs Colts 2022 Season Stats

Team Record Total Yards Offense Total Yards Defense Takeaways/Turnovers
Philadelphia Eagles 8-1 376.9 (1st) 302.4 (3rd) 20 (1st) / 7 (1st)
Indianapolis Colts 4-5-1 325.4 (24th) 307.0 (4th) 8 (29th) / 18 (31st)

It seems as if the Colts have some inspiration playing under Saturday and they’re still very relevant in the AFC Playoff odds. A win over the NFL’s best team this year could do wonders for this team moving forward.

Does it seem too good to be true? The Eagles are 2-12 ATS in their last 14 games following a double-digit loss at home, so a lot of signs point towards the Colts to cover. We’re going to make a bigger gamble here and say the Colts control the clock with Taylor against a Philly defense that doesn’t currently have the personnel prepared to deal with the Indy run game.

Our best bet and pick in the Eagles vs Colts odds is to take Jeff Saturday’s squad outright in a big Week 11 upset.
