The new advertisement, which also features HBO stars Rex Lee and Susie Essman, highlights a new feature from theScore Bet known as ‘Bet Mode’. This suite of features is designed to simplify betting as a wave of new sports bettors are set to start wagering in Ontario on April 4.

theScore Bet Ad Features Gerry Dee as Ontario Sports Betting Approaches
With over 15 sports betting sites already approved by the AGCO to launch in Ontario on April 4, theScore Bet is turning to Canadian icon Gerry Dee to help them stand out from the crowd. The actor, comedian, and television personality is a household name in the Great White North, and he plays a hapless bettor who took a bad beat on all his picks.
Rex Lee (best known as “Lloyd” from Entourage) and Susie Essman (best known as “Susie” from Curb Your Enthusiasm) also play supporting roles in the hilarious commercial designed to showcase how much fun you’ll have wagering with theScore Bet.
Penn National Gaming acquired theScore in August 2021, and while they also own the Barstool Sports brand, Penn made it clear they would lead with theScore Bet in the province of Ontario. While Penn is expected to lean on the marketing expertise provided by Barstool Sportsbook, it’s clear theScore will also be driving their own campaigns as they compete for market share in this coveted sports betting scene.
The “Get Into Bet Mode” campaign is centered around the Bet Mode value proposition. This concept ties together the massively popular sports media platform from theScore and their dedicated mobile betting app. Ontario sports bettors will already be familiar with theScore’s media platform, as the sports news app designed in Toronto has nearly 4 million active monthly users from around the world.

Speaking with igamingbusiness.com, theScore’s SVP of content and marketing Aubrey Levy had this to say: “One of the core pillars of that is our Bet Mode feature, which basically is the connection point between theScore and theScore Bet.” Elaborating further, Levy defined Bet Mode as a “comprehensive suite of features that allows you to see live odds and markets, follow your bets, build your bet slip within theScore’s media platform, see cashout offers, and more.”
