The other day, I previewed some celebrities that may consider a run for the presidency in 2020. Now, let’s take a moment to consider some politicians. You know, people with actual legislative experience.

We’re still three years away but already we can sense a few politicians testing the presidential waters. Who are they and will they actually run?

Here are the odds!

Odds to Run for President in 2020

Donald Trump (Republican): 1/4

With all that’s going on, we can’t be sure that Donald Trump will even be president by 2020. However, in the past it has been extremely rare for a sitting President to not seek reelection. If Trump does not resign (or is impeached), there’s a good chance he’ll run in 2020.

Cory Booker (Democrat): 1/2

It’s painfully obvious that Cory Booker is planning to run in 2020. He’s currently using every possible chance to raise his profile and, last year, he released a generic political book titled, United: Thoughts on Finding Common Ground and Advancing the Common Good — a sure sign of an upcoming presidential bid.

While he’s faced some heavy criticism from the progressive wing of the Democratic Party for his ties to Wall Street and Big Pharma, he’s still considered a rising star within the Democratic establishment.

Elizabeth Warren (Democrat): 2/3

The excitement within the Democratic Party is in the progressive wing, and Elizabeth Warren has been a champion of the left for some time now. Last month, she published her latest book, This Fight Is Our Fight: The Battle to Save America’s Middle Class, and she’s been touring the country promoting her book and putting her name out along the way.

Andrew Cuomo (Democrat): 8/11

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has had a long and distinguished career in politics. He was Bill Clinton’s Secretary of Housing and then the Attorney General of New York. It’s an open secret that he’s considering a bid for 2020, and he’s already quite popular in New York state. Question is: can he connect with the rest of the country?

John Kasich (Republican): 2/1

If Donald Trump is going to be Primaried, it’ll probably be by John Kasich. The Governor of Ohio kept campaigning in 2016 long after he had no chance of winning the nomination. He has extraordinary name recognition and he’s branded himself as the calm, polite alternative to Donald Trump.

Bernie Sanders (Democrat): 17/8

At 75 years old, Bernie Sanders’ political career is coming to an end. He was already quite old for a candidate in 2016, and he’ll be nearing 80 by 2020. He has an enormous grassroots support and a lot of momentum behind him, but he’s better off endorsing a younger candidate who reflects his values rather than running again.
