The Best in North America

Evil Geniuses are the well deserved favorites and have been playing incredible Counter-Strike during the month of June. In a couple of BLAST events, EG proved that they’re more than capable of being top dogs in North America.

At the Spring 2020 American Showdown, EG finished third after a 2-1 loss to MIBR. Third place was enough to qualify them for the American Finals were they were the standout performers of the tournament.

Following a 2-1 victory over Team Liquid, EG had a rematch against MIBR in the Upper Bracket Final. Once again EG would stumble against the all-Brazilian CS squad and were sent down to the losers bracket.

After a win against FURIA, EG would have one more chance to defeat MIBR and this time they came through. Despite back-to-back 2-1 losses to MIBR, EG would get the 2-0 sweep to win the American Finals.

A Dominant CS Summit 6

Evil Geniuses entered CS Summit 6 with a lot of momentum but I don’t think anyone expected them to dominate as much as they have. During the group stage, EG beat each and every team in the group in convincing fashion, having an overall round differential of +28. These included sweeps of both Team Liquid and MIBR. Only FURIA managed to take a single map over EG.

In the bracket stage, Evil Geniuses continued to prove that they are currently unmatched in North America. They got to the grand finals thanks to two 2-0’s over Gen.G and Team Liquid. There were some close calls in those sets but they ultimately avoided going to an all-deciding game 3.

The biggest advantage that Evil Geniuses will have in the grand finals is that they’ve earned a map win because they reached grand finals through the upper bracket. In other words, they only have to win two of the remaining four maps to win the tournament, while Gen.G will need to win three of four.

The Lower Bracket Underdogs

Gen.G might be heavy underdogs but they’ve been rather impressive at CS Summit aside from some tough losses to EG. They only finished second in their group but by the bracket stage they really ramped up.

Against 100 Thieves in lower bracket round 1, Gen.G won a very close 2-0 battle that saw them go into double overtime in the first map. To reach grand finals they then overcame Team Liquid in a nail-biting best-of-three that went the distance.

Gen.G gutted their way to the finals but it wasn’t convincing and they’ve got their backs against the wall coming from the lower bracket.

Even though there isn’t much value in betting on EG here, it’s hard to go a different direction than the NA team that has dominated in the month of June. Especially considering that they’ve already handed Gen.G a loss at this very tournament.

Stick with Evil Geniuses at -700. A Gen.G win here would be quite the upset. However, I think Gen.G wins one map, so you could also take the over 3.5 (-185).
