Through 54 holes of the RBC Heritage, Harold Varner III has a slim one shot lead after firing a blistering 8-under, 63 on moving day. Varner has come close to earning his first PGA Tour title in the past, but has yet to get over the finish line state side. Last year, he was co-runner-up at this tournament, when Stewart Cink emerged victorious.

Before the tournament began, Patrick Cantlay and Shane Lowry were among the favorites to claim the title, and they’re both just a shot back of Varner. It’s a jam packed leaderboard that sees twelve players within three and 21 within four shots of top spot. Read on to see the updated odds and best bets to make for the final round.

Those challenging just a few shots back is past champion Matt Kuchar, along with Jordan Spieth, who shockingly missed an 18 inch putt on the last hole to end his round on a sour note.

Harold Varner III Aims For First Tour Victory

Even though he has yet to taste ultimate success on the PGA Tour, it’s not as if Harold Varner III is a stranger to winning, as he won the Saudi International earlier in 2022 in unbelievable fashion. Down one shot with a hole to play, Varner coolly dropped a near 100 foot putt for eagle to win the championship.

Varner shot a bogey-free 8-under, 63 on Saturday, vaulting up the leaderboard. Through 54 holes, he’s tied for the most birdies for the championship, first in greens in regulation, second in SG: approach and sixth in putting.

Clearly reigning FedEx Cup champion Patrick Cantlay and 2019 Open champion Shane Lowry should have shorter odds than Varner entering the last day, simply due to their pedigree. Varner is no slouch at all, however.

Back in 2015, he won the Australian PGA Championship, so he’s had enough seasoning getting to this point in his career. Snagging the outright leader at +500 odds is still very much digestible compared to typically much shorter odds for a 54-hole leader. He’s been knocking on the door for quite a few years now, and Sunday gives him a prime opportunity to claim that first win.

1. Matt Kuchar (+1600): Matt Kuchar knows how to get it done on this course, having taken the 2014 championship in dramatic style with a 72nd hole bunker blast hole out to earn the trophy. He’s in top form, having finished runner-up in his last start at the Valero Texas Open. Kuchar is just two adrift entering the final round, and is second in scrambling and seventh in putting this week.
2. Billy Horschel (+2800): Just three shots off the pace is Billy Horschel. He’s third in strokes gained: putting and fourth in scrambling for the tournament. Knows how to close on Sunday, as evidenced by his six tour wins. Horschel has been avoiding mistakes at this challenging venue, with just one bogey in the last two rounds.
