Typically the week after a Major Championship is a letdown. The field is usually light on stars, causing a lack of buzz around the tournament. Not this week though. That’s because the Travellers Championship has been upgraded to elevated status, resulting in a purse too rich for the PGA Tour’s best to turn down.

With most of the game’s top players in the field, the cut will be tougher to make than your run of the mill Tour stop. We’ve identified our top target to trunk slam below, along with a 72-hole head-to-head matchup bet to target, and a make the cut parlay.

Thomas a Trunk Slam Candidate

It wasn’t that long ago that Thomas was the number one player in the world. He started the season at number eight, but now is in danger of missing out on the Ryder Cup. Obviously his form has a lot to do with the decline, but something most people don’t know is that there’s a high likelihood that he’s injured.

Multiple plugged-in golf reporters have been told by sources that Thomas is hurt, and his recent performance certainly backs that up. JT has missed back-to-back cuts, and hasn’t finished higher than 65th since the start of May. He beat just three players at last week’s U.S. Open, finishing with a second round 81.

Thomas’ ball striking, which is what he’s known for, has completely fallen off a cliff. He’s lost a combined 11.9 strokes in that metric over the past three tournaments, and ranks 103rd in strokes gained ball striking in the field during that stretch.

Without pristine ball striking, Thomas has little chance to play well this week. He’s one of the lowest ranked putters on Tour, and you simply can’t compete at a tournament with a projected winning score in the high-teens while struggling off the tee, with your irons and on the greens.

Pick: Justin Thomas to Miss Cut (+150)

Thomas vs Fitzpatrick H2H Matchup

Thomas ranks 116th in strokes gained putting over the last 12 rounds, and 97th in scoring. That makes him an easy fade in the head-to-head market, especially against a high quality opponent like Matthew Fitzpatrick.

Thomas vs Fitzpatrick H2H Odds

Team Moneyline
Justin Thomas +105
Matthew Fitzpatrick -135

The 2022 U.S. Open champ finished 17th last week at LACC, gaining 2.5 strokes on approach and 8.8 shots with his short game. He’s racked up three straight top-20 results, and won earlier this year the week after a Major, taking down the RBC Heritage at Harbour Town.

Pick: Matthew Fitzpatrick Over Justin Thomas (-135)

Make the Cut Parlay

We’re high on Fitzpatrick this week in the outright market at 40-1, and he’s an enticing option to start our make the cut parlay with. Fitzy has made the weekend in six of his last seven starts, ranking 11th in scoring during that span.

We’ll pair him with Keegan Bradley, who plays his best golf in the Northeast, and owns two top-20 results at TPC River Highlands over the last four years. Let’s also add Sahith Theegala, who’s made 18 straight cuts, and was runner-up at this event last year.

We’ll round out our parlay with Shane Lowry. The Irishman has three top-20 results in his last four starts, ranking 13th in ball striking and 21st in strokes gained tee-to-green.

Pick: Make the Cut Parlay (+305)
