Si Woo Kim is an all-or-nothing golfer – he won twice on the tour by the age of 21 including the PGA Tour crown jewel Players Championship in 2017. But he also is prone to long stretches of poor play. Through 36 holes, we have the dynamite Kim thus far.

Jordan Spieth has come out of hibernation with a pair of 68’s to grab a share of second place along with 2019 Waste Management Phoenix Open champ Rickie Fowler.

Which Si Woo Kim Will Show Up on the Weekend?

If you placed a wager on Kim before the tournament at +5500 odds, you’re laughing. Who would’ve seen this coming?

He had two great events in a row in February which he finished in the top four but then followed that with three poor events.

Si Woo Kim’s Last Five Tournaments

Tournament Result
WGC-Dell Match Play T-61st
The Players Championship T-56th
Arnold Palmer Invitational CUT
Genesis Open 3rd
AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am T-4th

This go around, Kim has been flawless, putting together back-to-back rounds of 66 including a marvelous ace on 16 Friday.

This will be just his second-ever 36-hole lead – he won the other time at the 2016 Wyndham Championship. It’s hard to bet against this guy, though with not a ton of experience out front and super short odds, others are an attractive option.

Rickie Fowler and Jordan Spieth Lurking in Texas

Of these two golfers, Rickie Fowler is better positioned to win given that he has a title this season while Spieth doesn’t have a top-20 finish all year. The best bet heading into the weekend is Fowler. He’s fifth in greens in regulation and ninth in putting through 36 holes.

Keep an eye out for Spieth at next week’s Masters, however, because he plays unbelievably well there.

Best Live Value Picks at 2019 Valero Texas Open

  1. Jhonattan Vegas (+3300): I picked him before the tournament at +4000 so why change now? Apart from one missed cut, his worst result in his last six tournaments is T-26th, highlighted by a tie for third at the Players Championship.
  2. Scott Stallings (+3300): My pre-event best value pick at +11000. Tied for ninth in last tournament plus was third at Pebble Beach. T-10th in putting through two rounds.
  3. Corey Conners (+4000): A PGA Tour golfer is in second place and his odds are this long? Sign me up. Conners has a second place and third place showing this season already mixed in with some middling results. Boom or Bust.
  4. Beau Hossler (+10000): Something of a home game for the former Texas Longhorn. Currently sits at -5 (seven back), but only three back of second place. Only a matter of time before he finds the winners circle.
