A funny thing happened to the Los Angeles Dodgers last season as they sought to repeat as World Series champions. For starters, they didn’t even win their division.
Earning a Wild Card playoff berth, the Dodgers battled their way into the NLCS but lost to the Atlanta Braves.

The pitching staff boasts a rotation including Walker Buehler, Clayton Kershaw and at some point, Trevor Bauer. Craig Kimbrel was added to the bullpen. This team has it all going for them.
Jays Ready to Take Next Step?
A furious late-season rally left the Toronto Blue Jays one win shy of earning the nod as 2021 postseason participants. They enter 2022 as the American League team with the shortest World Series odds (+875). They lead the AL Pennant odds at +450, just ahead of the Yankees and Astros (+475).
The Jays have allowed a young core of Vladimir Guerrero Jr, Bo Bichette and Cavan Biggio to grow together. In the offseason, they added third baseman Matt Chapman, a superb defender, to this group.

Even though the Jays let AL Cy Young winner Robbie Ray walk via free agency, it’s hard to debate that the Toronto pitching staff is better. Kevin Gausman and Yusei Kikuchi improve the rotation and Yimi Gomez beefs up the bullpen.
National League Contenders
The defending champions Braves (+1200) lost Freeman and Kimbrel to of all teams, the Dodgers. However, it’s easy to forget that Atlanta won the World Series last season with the injured Ronald Acuna Jr. He was getting plenty of NL MVP love prior to suffering a season-ending knee injury.

Any team that adds Max Scherzer to their pitching staff is an instant World Series hopeful. And Francisco Lindor can’t be as bad as he was last year. However, the annule Jacob deGrom injury is arriving early for the New York Mets (+1500).
American League Contenders
The usual suspects – the New York Yankees (+1300), Boston Red Sox (+2000) and Houston Astros (+1000) – always warrant consideration. Are the Chicago White Sox (+1000) really that good, or is the AL Central just that bad? Until the ChiSox put together a playoff run, it’s hard to take them seriously.

Don’t sleep on the Tampa Bay Rays (+1600). No team goes deeper in quality arms and while they were winning 100 games last season, the Rays also scored more runs than the vaunted Toronto offense. If you really want to go for value, the Seattle Mariners (+3300) offer intrigue. The Ms added Ray and also picked up veteran bats Jesse Winker and Eugenio Suarez.
