The Los Angeles Angels will look to sweep a three-game road series from the Detroit Tigers at 1:10 pm ET Thursday at Comerica Park.
The Angels (61-61) have won three of their last four games to get back to .500 for the 24th time this season. That comes on the heels of losing four of five games and six of eight.
The Tigers (58-64) are on a three-game losing streak after winning four of their previous five games but the oddsmakers call this game even steven.

Detroit Tigers | -110 | +1.5 (-155) | Under 9 (-100) |

Probable pitchers
Left-hander Jose Quintana (0-3, 6.12) will make a spot start for the Angels and oppose rookie right-hander Matt Manning (3-5, 6.10).
The Angels was originally supposed to pitch lefty Patrick Sandoval, but he was scratched and placed on the injured list Wednesday with a left lumbar spine stress reaction. Quintana began the season in the rotation but has not started since May 30.
Quintana vs Manning
0-3 | Record | 3-5 |
6.12 | ERA | 6.10 |
4.84 | xERA | 5.49 |
1.70 | WHIP | 1.52 |
2.41 | SO/W | 1.92 |
Quintana has made 13 consecutive relief appearances and compiled a 3.86 ERA after going 0-3 with a 7.22 ERA in nine starts. He was limited to one start and three relief appearances last season with the Chicago Cubs because of injury and has not registered a win since Sept. 5, 2019.

In his last appearance, Quintana pitched 0.2 scoreless inning Sunday against the Houston Astros at Anaheim. His longest relief stint this season has been 2.1 innings.
Quintana does not have any quality starts this season and his longest outing is 5.1 innings. He is 0-2 with an 8.66 ERA in nine road games (four starts) and 0-0 with a 3.05 ERA in the daytime over seven games (four starts).
This will be Quintana’s first time facing the Tigers this season, but he has a 6-5 career record in 20 games (19 starts) with a 4.41 ERA. At Comerica Park, he is 3-3 with a 5.54 ERA in nine games (eight starts).
Though 1-2 with a 6.53 ERA in his last four starts, Manning is coming off a win. He went six innings last Thursday to beat the Orioles in Baltimore, allowing three runs and eight hits with two strikeouts and no walks.

It was Manning’s second quality start in 10 outings this year. He has pitched well at home with a 2-1 record and 3.15 ERA in four starts and is 2-0 with a 4.40 in three night starts.
Manning made his major league debut against the Angels on July 17 on the road and took the loss despite giving up two runs in five innings.
Cabrera Sitting on 499
Tigers designated hitter Miguel Cabrera continues to be one home run away from 500 for his career. Cabrera has gone five games since his last homer Aug. 11 in Baltimore.
Batting Average vs Starting Pitchers
Angels Batters | Batting Average vs Manning |
---|---|
David Fletcher | .500 |
Juan Lagares | .500 |
Shohei Ohtani | .000 |

Tigers catcher Eric Haase is questionable after missing the first two games of the series with lower back tightness. He has a team-leading 19 home runs.
Left fielder Justin Upton is the only Angels hitter with as many as three plate appearances versus Manning and is 0 for 3 with two strikeouts.
Angels vs Tigers Pick
The Angels have gone 5-1 against the Tigers this season and the last time they lost the season series was all the way back in 2010.
Pitcher/designated hitter Shohei Ohtani led the Angels to a 3-1 win on Wednesday night as he hit MLB-leading 40th home run while allowing one run in eight innings. Raisel Iglesias pitched a perfect ninth for his 27th save.

While the Angels are forced to go to Quintana for a spot start, he has pitched better since coming out of the bullpen. Couple that with the Angels dominating the season series this year and the Halos are the play.
The Pick: Angels moneyline (-110)
