All odds as of April 14th.

Prop #1: Kenta Maeda Under 6.5 Strikeouts

The first player prop to attack is the under on Kenta Maeda’s strikeouts. The 33-year-old is off to a fine start to the season (1-0, 2.61 ERA), but his strikeout production has been lacking compared to prior years. He’s produced a K/9 rate of just 9.58 through two starts, which would be his lowest since 2017 if extrapolated over an entire season.

He’s also producing much fewer swinging strikes than usual, as his swinging strike rate (13.5) is four percent lower than last season. To make matters worse, he’s allowed a hard hit rate of 46.9%, after never surrendering a rate north of 32% previously.

Boston meanwhile, has struck out only 83 times in 2021, which is the third lowest mark in the AL. They’ve struck out six or fewer times in three of the past five games, and eight or fewer times in seven of 10 total contests.

Pick: Kenta Maeda Under 6.5 Strikeouts (+110)

Prop #2: Juan Soto To Hit Home Run

Let’s swing for the fences with Juan Soto next. The 22-year-old is red-hot to start the season, batting .370, with 2 home runs and a 1.114 OPS. He has three multi-hit outings in his past five games, and is generating hard contact on 54.5% of his at-bats.

If he keeps up that rate, no MLB starter will be safe, including St. Louis’ Adam Wainwright. The right-hander is 0-1, with 8.22 ERA and a 1.96 WHIP through two outings.

Pick: Juan Soto To Hit Home Run (+500)
