Cubs Look to Reverse Road Woes Against Slumping Phillies
Chicago opened their current 10-game road trip by splitting a four-game weekend set in Cincinnati, avoiding a fourth straight series loss with Sunday’s 6-3 victory over the Reds.
They’re a disappointing 5-9 in their past 14 games away from Wrigley Field, and have failed to claim a series win on the road since taking two of three from Washington in mid-May.
A slumbering offense on the road continues to plague Chicago. Cubs’ hitters have tallied two or fewer runs in five of the team’s past seven away dates. While that has contributed to a steady 7-3-1 run for the UNDER in run totals betting when on the road, the Cubs have a history of running up the score when playing in Philadelphia.
Chicago has scored seven or more runs in four of its past seven dates at Citizens Bank Park, while limiting the Phillies to two or fewer runs on five occasions during that stretch.

The Phillies return home after dropping a 9-6 decision in San Francisco on Sunday night to close out a seven-game Western swing with just two victories.
Overall, the Phils have failed to post consecutive wins during a 4-8 run that has dumped the club into fourth place in their division, nine games back of first-place Atlanta, and two back of St. Louis for the second NL wild card.
Phillies ranks since the All-Star break:

27th in batting average
26th in slugging percentage
25th in OPS

Philadelphia maintains a very respectable 34-26 record at home, however, the club has also struggled to rack up steady results at Citizens Bank Park.
During a 7-9 run that has featured just one series victory, shaky performances from the starters have been a major cause for concern as Jason Vargas, Aaron Nola, and Drew Smyly combined to go 0-2 in three starts last week, giving up 11 earned runs over 15.2 innings.
Pick: Cubs (-115)

Red-Hot Mets Eye Wild Card Spot Ahead of Visit to Atlanta
The Mets will look to rebound from a 7-4 loss to the Nationals on Sunday afternoon that snapped an eight-game win streak when they travel south on Tuesday to open a three-game series with the division leading Braves.
New York has gone on a miraculous run over the past three weeks, posting wins in 15 of 17 games, and open their series with the Braves just one game back of St. Louis for the second NL wild card.
The club has powered their resurgence with steady results on the road, winning 10 of 15 since the All-Star Break, including victories in four of five road series.

The Mets are also getting regular production at the plate, outscoring opponents by a 58-31 margin during their current 8-1 run. The club’s rotation has also been solid, with Tuesday’s starter Zack Wheeler throwing 15.0 innings of shutout baseball over his past two starts, and earning the win in each of his past three outings.
Steven Matz has also been steady, surrendering two or fewer earned runs in seven of eight outings ahead of his scheduled Wednesday start.

The Braves return home to face New York after going a middling 4-3 over a seven-game road trip. Atlanta was forced to settle for a disappointing split to the last place Marlins in Miami, but did take two of three from the Minnesota Twins. However, their pitching woes have continued, allowing seven or more runs in four of their past six outings.
On the Mets day off, Washington topped Cincinnati 7-6 and gained a half game giving them a full game lead in the wild card standings. Arizona also won getting them back over .500.

Atlanta has been treading water since the All-Star Break, going 12-13 in their past 25. However, the Braves hold the edge against the Mets this season, going 6-4 in 10 meetings, and are 10-6 in their past ten against the Mets at SunTrust Park.
Pick: Mets (+135)
