National League Cy Young Award favorite Walker Buehler will be on the mound for the Los Angeles Dodgers when they visit the San Diego Padres at 10:10 pm ET Wednesday in the middle game of a three-game series at Petco Park.

After having a nine-game winning streak snapped Sunday, the Dodgers (79-47) bounced back to beat the Padres 5-2 on Tuesday night in the series opener. Los Angeles has won 14 of its last 17 games.

The Padres (68-59) have lost six of seven and 10 and 12 and, not surprisingly, are underdogs against Buehler.

The Dodgers opened as -145 favorites on the moneyline and that has changed just slightly. The weather forecast calls for some haze at game time with the temperature at 77 degrees and wind from the northwest at 5-10 mph.

Probable Pitchers

Buehler (13-2, 2.11) will oppose Padres left-hander Blake Snell (6-5, 4.82), who happened to win the American League Cy Young Award in 2018 while pitching for the Tampa Bay Rays.

Buehler has gone 2-0 in his last three starts and 6-1 with a 1.51 ERA in his past 10 outings. He has reeled off eight straight quality starts, 17 in his last 18 games and a total of 22 in 25 games this season.

In his previous turn, Buehler did not factor in the decision last Friday against the New York Mets in Los Angeles. He allowed two runs and six hits in 7.2 innings with eight strikeouts and no walks.

Buehler has faced the Padres twice this season and is 0-0 despite a fine 2.77 ERA. He is 4-0 with a 1.76 ERA in seven career starts versus San Diego and 1-0 with a 2.65 ERA in three games at Petco Park.

While Snell certainly isn’t a Cy Young candidate, he has pitched better lately, going 2-1 with a 2.45 ERA in four starts in August. He pitched well in a home loss to the Philadelphia Phillies last Friday when he gave up three runs, two hits and two walks in five innings while striking out nine.

Snell has had just four quality starts in 23 outings this season and those are the only times he has pitched at least six innings. The Padres are 11-12 he takes the mound.

Petco Park has been a friendly place for Snell in his first year with the Padres as he has a 4-2 record with a 2.68 ERA in 10 starts at home. At night, he is 5-3 with a 3.55 ERA in 15 starts.

Snell has made three of his four career regular season starts against the Dodgers this season and is 1-0 with a 2.35 ERA. He is also 1-0 lifetime with a 2.08 ERA.

Snell has given Max Muncy fits as the Dodgers first baseman is hitless in nine career at-bats against him with five strikeouts, though he has drawn three walks. Muncy is also currently in a 1-for-19 slump.

Center fielder Chris Taylor is 4 for 10 with a double and two homers off Snell.

Padres’ right fielder Fernando Tatis has had some success against Buehler, going 5 for 15 with two home runs. However, first baseman Eric Hosmer is 3 for 21 with six strikeouts.
