You can bet the Giants (54-46, 28-24 away) aren’t too happy about a schedule that saw them fly to Detroit from Washington on Sunday and then will see them leave Motown Monday evening to head back to Northern California to begin a series with the Athletics on Tuesday.
To make matters worse, they’ve lost five in a row including a sweep at the hands of the lowly Nationals as they get set for their makeup game against the Tigers (45-53, 21-27 home) on Monday, July 24th at Comerica Park. First pitch is set for 1:10 pm ET and can be seen on Bally Sports Network Detroit and NBC Bay Area.
Below, we’ll provide you the latest Giants vs Tigers odds for this matchup, as well as analyzing this affair before providing our best bet and pick.
Giants vs Tigers Odds
Team | Moneyline | Runline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
San Francisco Giants | +120 | +1.5 (-150) | O 11 (+100) |
Detroit Tigers | -140 | -1.5 (+130) | U 11 (-120) |
The over/under total for this game is set at a monstrous 11 runs, while the Tigers have been made -140 home favorites against a struggling Giants squad. Only three teams in all of baseball have more road wins than the Giants this season, so home field shouldn’t be a big advantage for Detroit.
Hopefully the weather cooperates this time around, as this game is being made up due to a weather postponement between these two a few months ago. Forecasts are calling for game time temperatures in the mid 80’s, but scattered thunderstorms are a possibility.

San Francisco vs Detroit Probable Pitchers
Following a tremendous year with the Blue Jays, Ross Stripling has struggled after signing a two year, $25 million dollar contract with the Giants in the off season.
"Kind of the story of my year."

The 33-year old has already given up 13 homers in only 51 and two-thirds innings of work after allowing just 12 long balls in over 134 innings pitched last season. On top of that, his strikeout percentage is down, while his walk percentage is up and opponents are batting over 50 points higher against him than they did last year.
A lower back strain landed him on the injury list in May, but in five appearances since returning, he has looked better, posting a 3.72 ERA during that span, which in effect, has brought his ERA for the season down over a full run.
Stripling vs Skubal Stats
0-3 | Record | 0-1 |
5.92 | ERA | 5.25 |
1.34 | WHIP | 1.08 |
.280 | OBA | .233 |
3.8 | SO/W Ratio | 4.7 |
Heavy set lefty, Tarik Skubal gets the call for the Tigers in this one. He made his season debut earlier this month after returning from flexor tendon surgery last August.
Skubal hasn’t pitched more than four innings in any of his three starts this campaign, and got rocked in his last outing for seven runs against the Royals. With a couple of pitchers who haven’t performed well in limited innings this year, it’s no wonder the run total in the MLB odds has been set so high.
Giants Offense Has Gone Missing
No other MLB lineups have been as inept as the one San Francisco has put together over the past five games as they just can’t get their offense going. Every single one of those contests has resulted in defeat.
Giants Offense Last Five Games
Date | Result | Team Batting Average | Team Home Runs |
---|---|---|---|
July 23rd | SF 1 – WSH 6 | .200 | 1 |
July 22nd | SF 1 – WSH 10 | .172 | 0 |
July 21st | SF 3 – WSH 5 | .161 | 2 |
July 20th | SF 1 – CIN 5 | .071 | 1 |
July 19th | SF 2 – CIN 3 | .194 | 1 |
While they’ve still been able to drive some balls out of the park, their team batting average has been nothing short of ugly during this losing streak. They haven’t managed to string together more than six hits once over the last five and if they can’t do it again, they’ll likely suffer a season high sixth loss in a row.
On the other side, Alex Faedo will be looking to put his last MLB start behind him. He was placed on the injured list in early June with right middle finger discomfort and has only made one start since getting rocked for seven runs against the Blue Jays a couple of weeks ago.
Giants vs Tigers Picks
As one of the top contenders in the odds to land Shohei Ohtani at the trade deadline, the Giants seem to be pleading for more offense.

Jammed in a five team race for three Wild Card playoff spots in the National League, they can’t really afford to lose any more games to teams they should beat, like their previous opponent, the Nationals, their next opponent, the Athletics, and their adversaries in Monday afternoon’s contest, the Tigers.
San Francisco hasn’t lost more than five games this season and our prediction is that they put this losing streak to bed against the Tigers. They’ve got a much better record as visitors than Detroit does as hosts, so take the underdogs straight up to snap their skid.
Pick: San Francisco Giants Moneyline (+120)
