- The Major League Baseball trade deadline is on August 1st and is fast approaching
- As an impending free agent, Shohei Ohtani is undoubtedly the major attraction on the market
- Check out the next team odds for Ohtani below, as well as other big names who could be dealt
Sooner rather than later, we’ll find out if Shohei Ohtani will have a new home for the rest of the regular season. The 2023 MLB trade deadline is August 1st, but a week in advance, there’s already plenty of buzz and speculation across the league.
Sitting at -750 in the AL MVP odds, the only way Ohtani might not win that award is if he’s dealt to a National League squad and can’t pump up his numbers in the junior circuit.
Below, we break down where we think Ohtani will land and dish out the odds on the Japanese sensation’s next possible destination that DraftKings Sportsbook has provided to bettors as well as looking at odds for where some other big names will land.
Shohei Ohtani Next Team Odds After August 1st
Team | Odds |
---|---|
Los Angeles Angels | -170 |
Los Angeles Dodgers | +800 |
San Francisco Giants | +900 |
Any Other Team | +1000 |
Atlanta Braves | +1100 |
New York Yankees | +1400 |
Baltimore Orioles | +1500 |
New York Mets | +1800 |
Tampa Bay Rays | +2200 |

Oddsmakers still are buoyant on the freakishly talented Ohtani staying put. They’re currently five games back of the final Wild Card spot, but are actually in playoff contention for the first time in Ohtani’s six years with the club.
Nevertheless, the Halos won’t want to lose him for nothing when they can get a king’s ransom by dealing him to a contender in the World Series odds.
The Yankees are near the bottom of the standings in a loaded AL East, but if they trade for Shohei Ohtani, John Smoltz believes New York would become an instant World Series favorite, writes @BenVerlander.

Most reports are saying the Dodgers and Giants are his likely landing spots when he’s a free agent in the off-season, and that is why they have the shortest odds to nab Ohtani before the deadline.
Another club to watch out for is the Yankees, who have prime prospects Spencer Jones and Jasson Dominguez that they could make available. While the Bronx Bombers are sitting outside of the playoff picture acquiring Ohtani and a return to health for Aaron Judge would give them a duo comparable to Ruth and Gehrig or Mantle and Maris.
Blake Snell Next Team Odds After August 1st
Team | Odds |
---|---|
San Diego Padres | +105 |
Texas Rangers | +600 |
Baltimore Orioles | +750 |
Los Angeles Dodgers | +900 |
Cincinnati Reds | +1100 |
New York Yankees | +1200 |
Toronto Blue Jays | +1300 |
Atlanta Braves | +1500 |
Houston Astros | +1500 |
Other than the Mets, perhaps no team has been more disappointing this season than the San Diego Padres who began the year at +117 in the division odds, but now sit under .500 with odds of +2200.
In the final year of his contract, former Cy Young winner Blake Snell will likely be on the move from San Diego. After having an ERA north of 5.00 through the first month of the year, he’s been dominant, allowing just four earned runs over his last 52 innings (nine total starts).

At +1500 to land the lefty, the Braves provide great value. With a number of pitchers in their rotation dealing with injuries this season, he would push the best team in baseball over the top and would make them even stronger favorites to win their second World Series in three years.
Marcus Stroman Next Team Odds After August 1st
Team | Odds |
---|---|
Texas Rangers | +380 |
Los Angeles Dodgers | +450 |
Baltimore Orioles | +550 |
Tampa Bay Rays | +900 |
Houston Astros | +900 |
Chicago Cubs | +1000 |
New York Yankees | +1000 |
Cincinnati Reds | +1100 |
Atlanta Braves | +1100 |
San Francisco Giants | +1200 |
After an incredible start to the year, Marcus Stroman has struggled a bit over the last month, but the fiery righthander has the type of pitching arsenal that would make him a great addition to any club aspiring for playoff success.
He’s likely to be dealt from a Cubs squad that isn’t going anywhere and will likely command a lesser return than somebody like Snell. That makes him very attractive to a team like Tampa, who likes to build from within and keep their best prospects. They wouldn’t have to sell the farm for Stro-show, who knows the division very well.
Lucas Giolito Next Team Odds After August 1st
Team | Odds |
---|---|
Los Angeles Dodgers | +300 |
Texas Rangers | +380 |
Baltimore Orioles | +550 |
Cincinnati Reds | +800 |
Atlanta Braves | +950 |
Houston Astros | +1000 |
New York Yankees | +1100 |
Chicago White Sox | +1200 |
Tampa Bay Rays | +1300 |
Toronto Blue Jays | +1400 |
From a compact righty on the North Side to a giant righty on the South Side of the Windy City, Lucas Giolito is another pitcher who will likely be in a new uniform come August.
The Dodgers are the favorites to land the SoCal native at +300 and that’s well worth the money. Starting pitching has surprisingly been the biggest issue for the squad this season and landing Giolito would give them a reliable arm with a contract that expires at the end of the year so they can still go all in on Ohtani.
Cody Bellinger Next Team Odds After August 1st
Team | Odds |
---|---|
Philadelphia Phillies | +330 |
Seattle Mariners | +450 |
New York Yankees | +750 |
San Francisco Giants | +800 |
Any Other Team | +1000 |
Toronto Blue Jays | +1100 |
Chicago Cubs | +1200 |
Los Angeles Dodgers | +1300 |
Houston Astros | +1500 |
Miami Marlins | +1800 |
Finally, we’ve got one pure position player who has experienced somewhat of a renaissance this season in Cody Bellinger. After combining to hit just .203 over the last three seasons, the 28-year old is batting over .300 this season with an OPS close to .900 for the Cubs.
He’s got a ton of playoff experience and can play first base plus multiple outfield positions making him an ideal fit for a lot of sides. With a mutual option for next year at a more than fair $12.5 million, we see the cost-conscious Brewers at an ideal fit.
