Walker has given New York lots of consistency on the bump which definitely helps given the absences of Max Scherzer and Jacob deGrom right now.

Last time out the 29-year-old surrendered four earned runs across six frames against the Padres. That was only the second time in 2022 Walker gave up more than three runs in a single outing. However, in seven appearances versus LA, the veteran owns a dismal 5.70 ERA.

Sandoval is definitely putting his best foot forward for the Angels this year. The 25-year-old is 3-1 with a stellar 2.81 ERA in nine starts while racking up 46 strikeouts in 48 innings of work. That being said, Sandoval’s command has been shaky at times, surrendering 24 free passes.
In his most recent outing vs Philadelphia, the righty only last 4.2 frames after allowing two earned and four walks as he took the no-decision.

The Mets are a team Sandoval has never faced, which means this is new territory for him on Sunday. It’s almost important to note only two of his starts were at night and he boasts an ERA of 0.00 in those appearances.
Mets in a Rut
New York still sits at the top of the NL East with a 39-22 record, but they’ve been struggling as of late. The Mets have now lost three of their last four games, getting outscored 34-11 during that span.
Carlos Carrasco was very poor on Saturday, allowing five earned runs in the 11-6 defeat. The bullpen didn’t fare much better either, allowing six earned after Carrasco exited in the fifth inning.

But even though the arms aren’t pitching great right now, the offense as a whole is thriving this season. NY is first in hits, average, and OBP and also ranks second in runs scored per game with 5.1. Pete Alonso, who is sitting at +1100 in NL MVP odds, leads the Mets with 16 homers, 54 RBI, and a .281 average.

Los Angeles just finally ended a franchise-worst 14-game losing streak on Thursday, not long after the organization decided to relieve Joe Maddon of his managerial duties. Well, if the Angels’ offense can hit as they did on Saturday, this team will be just fine.

LA beat up on the Mets’ pitching, banging out 11 runs on 15 hits. Mike Trout went deep twice in the contest, while Jared Walsh became the third player this season to hit for the cycle as he went 4-for-5 with three RBI.
Two-way star Shohei Ohtani also went 3-for-4. The Angels are hitting .366 as a group against Walker, with Trout alone going a mind-boggling 10-for-16 off him. Sunday could very well be another offensive explosion.
