After a dominant 4-0 win on Saturday afternoon, the Boston Red Sox are back at it on Sunday against the Minnesota Twins. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:35 PM ET at Fenway Park. Both teams have won once each in this four-game set.

Boston is going with right-hander Michael Wacha here, who had a respectable debut last week. As for the Twins, they hand Bailey Ober the ball.

Twins, Red Sox Probable Pitchers

Ober makes his second start of 2022 after only coming up to the big leagues last season. His first outing was far from ideal though, tossing just five innings and giving up four earned runs to the Seattle Mariners. For what it’s worth, the 26-year-old went four scoreless against the Red Sox in his final Spring Training start, allowing a mere one hit.

Ober was pretty solid in his rookie year though, going 3-3 in 20 appearances, pitching to a 4.19 ERA. He also struck out 96 in 92.1 innings. Ober actually diced Boston in one start in 2021, lasting five innings and giving up no runs and only four hits.

Ober vs Wacha 2021 Stats

Bailey Ober
VS
Michael Wacha
3-3 Record 3-5
4.19 ERA 5.05
92.1 Innings Pitched 124.2
96 Strikeouts 121

The Red Sox went out and signed Wacha in November after he spent ’21 with the Tampa Bay Rays. He posted an ERA over five with them, but the veteran did show well in his season debut against the Tigers on April 11th. Wacha allowed two hits through 4.1 innings, striking out four in the process. Hopefully, he can continue to give Alex Cora some stability at the back-end of the rotation.

However, the Twins are a team who have tagged him. He’s made three starts against Minny, compiling a dismal 5.71 ERA. Wacha will be looking to turn the tables in his first start at Fenway for the Red Sox.

Twins Betting Outlook

Minnesota is off to a 3-5 start and although it’s early, they’ve really struggled to swing the bats. Rocco Baldelli’s squad is hitting an atrocious .189, with blockbuster signing Carlos Correa getting off to a slow start as well, slashing well under .200.

Their offense was absolutely shut down on Saturday by a valiant effort from Tanner Houck. The Twins compiled just five hits in total. On a more positive note though, Minny has cranked 10 homers, with Byron Buxton accounting for three. However, the star outfielder is out for the time being after injuring his knee.

Red Sox Betting Outlook

Again, we’re just a handful of games into the campaign. But, Boston isn’t exactly thriving at the plate, either. Rafael Devers, who is +2500 in AL MVP odds, is red hot,  already going 11 for 30 with five extra-base hits, but outside of him, Alex Verdugo, and JD Martinez, they’ve been quiet.

That being said, Saturday was a step in the right direction. Verdugo and Xander Bogaerts both went deep at Fenway. They will be hoping to get to Ober early on Sunday, who had his way with them last year.

Twins vs Red Sox Prediction

I don’t like Wacha’s record against the Twins, while the 6’9 Ober enjoyed a very solid start vs Boston last season. That being said, I believe he’ll keep Minnesota in this game and they’ll manage to score some runs early off Wacha.

Pick: Twins moneyline -110
