New York is a -125 favorite on Friday but they just lost two in a row to the San Francisco Giants.
Philadelphia vs New York Probable Pitchers
Eflin has been one of the Phillies’ most consistent starts in 22′. The right-hander owns a 3.65 ERA and a 1-3 record in seven starts, striking out 35 hitters in 37 innings. His last outing was quite impressive, limiting a very good Dodgers team to just two runs across seven frames. Eflin also struck out 12 LA batters.
That'll do it for Zach Eflin. He was spectacular today.
He managed to give the Phillies seven strong innings, recorded a career-high 12 K's, and induced a ridiculous 19 swing-and-misses, all against a tough lineup.
He's been outstanding since returning from the COVID IL.

However, Eflin already faced the Mets earlier this month and he was lit up, allowing five earned runs before being chased after 4.1 innings. He’ll be hoping to build off his previous start and try to contain New York’s potent offense.
Eflin vs Carrasco
1-3 | Record | 4-1 |
3.65 | ERA | 3.50 |
1.11 | WHIP | 1.10 |
.245 | OBA | .257 |
The Mets are dealing with their injury problems right now, especially with Max Scherzer and Jacob deGrom on the shelf. But, Carrasco has done a nice job of putting his best foot forward every fifth day. He’s posted a 3.50 ERA in eight starts while going 4-1. What been most impressive about him is the ability to strike out opponents and also limit the walks. Carrasco has racked up 39 K’s in 46.1 innings and surrendered a mere five free passes. He’ll need to keep pounding the zone on Friday.
Carlos Carrasco's line today: 5.1 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, 87 pitches.
Carrasco had traffic on the bases in every inning but one, but he managed to limit the damage at Coors Field in large part by throwing strikes.

While Carrasco hasn’t pitched against the Phillies this season yet, he owns a 1.80 ERA in three appearances vs. Philadelphia. In 2021, the Venezuelan held them to two runs in six innings of work.
Phillies’ Bullpen Failing
One of the biggest concerns for Philadelphia coming into the season was their pitching. There were no doubts the offense was going to flourish and that’s exactly what’s happening. The rotation is actually throwing the ball not too badly. Ranger Suarez’s 4.74 ERA is the worst of the bunch. It’s the bullpen who is blowing games.
I just wanna give a Phillies fan a hug. I really do. Some of the shit they’ve had to witness this year and it’s only May. pic.twitter.com/MggHnXtxbv

They boast a 4.15 ERA (21st in the MLB) and sit at the bottom of the league in SO/BB, opponent average, OBP, and BABIP. Every time the starters hand the ball over, the bullpen is choking.
Mets Trying to Stay Afloat Without Scherzer
New York was handed a devastating blow last week with Scherzer being ruled out for 6-8 weeks due to an oblique injury. Replacing his production is near impossible, but as a whole, the Mets’ staff has done relatively well. They’re allowing only 3.8 runs per game and holding oppositions to a .232 average, ranking in the top half of the bigs in both categories.

It’s the lineup that is really thriving. Pete Alonso is in the top-10 in NL MVP odds amid a terrific campaign, hitting .275 with 11 homers already, while Jeff McNeil is leading the way with a .321 average. There are a few guys who absolutely rake off Eflin too, including McNeil, Eduardo Escobar, and Starling Marte.

Phillies vs Mets Prediction
I have to take the Mets here. They really swing it against Eflin and Philadelphia is struggling immensely right now. The moneyline offers solid value for New York.
