Scherzer Stymies Former Team

The first bet to target on Wednesday is over 6.5 strikeouts for the Mets Max Scherzer against the Phillies. The 37-year-old will make his second start for his new team after posting a 7-3 victory versus the Nationals last week.

Scherzer is fresh off his 10th consecutive season with a double-digit K/9 rate and sat down six Washington batters on Friday. His fastball remains a staple in the mid-90’s and his slider is still devastating.

The three-time Cy Young Award winner has owned this collection of Philly batters over his career. Current members of the Phillies are batting just .140 against him over 162 at-bats, with a whopping 67 strikeouts.

Pick: Max Scherzer Over 6.5 Strikeouts (-165)

d’Arnaud Delivers vs Nationals

Next up, let’s target Travis d’Arnaud against Josiah Gray and the Nationals. d’Arnaud tore the cover off the ball during spring training for the defending champs and has continued his strong play early on in the season. He’s currently batting .353 after racking up six hits including a home run over his past 13 at-bats.

Last night, he smacked three hits in a 16-4 win over Washington, and he is a perfect 2-for-2 with a home run in his career against Gray.

As for the Nationals hurler, he got off to shaky start in his first appearance of the season, which continues a trend of ugly outings since being promoted to the bigs. Gray has issued 71 hits and 48 runs over 74.2 career innings, yielding a HR/9 rate of 2.41.

35.4% of the batters he’s faced over the past two years have produced hard contact, which spells trouble for his prospects today against an elite Braves lineup. I’m betting d’Arnaud and his teammates rough him up again.

Pick: Travis d’Arnaud 2+ Hits (+290)
