The Mariners (8-11) and Padres (12-6) wrap up their three-game Interleague series tonight, with San Diego looking to complete the sweep. Online sportsbooks don’t like their chances though, as they’ve pegged Seattle as favorites in the MLB odds.
First pitch is scheduled for 5:40 pm PT, 8:40 pm ET, at Petco Park in San Diego, CA, with MLB Network providing the broadcast coverage.
See below for my favorite picks, predictions and props to target in the Mariners vs Padres series finale, and the analysis behind each selection.
Mariners vs Padres Picks and Predictions
When evaluating the betting lines for this matchup, my top play is the Padres Moneyline. San Diego enters this contest with a 12-6 straight-up record. They are 9-1 straight-up over their last 10 games, translating to a dominant 90.0% win rate. Conversely, the Mariners have struggled mightily as an underdog, winning just 33.3% of those contests.
The Mariners, who started the year as a strong World Series odds contender, are sending strikeout artist Luis Castillo to the mound to stifle a potent Padres lineup featuring Fernando Tatis Jr and Manny Machado. Meanwhile, the Padres will look to capitalize on their momentum and embrace their role as home underdogs behind veteran starting pitcher Walker Buehler.
Luis Castillo vs Walker Buehler Stats
The most glaring trend pointing toward a Padres victory is the extreme vulnerability of Castillo. Over 39 innings pitched, Castillo has ballooned to a 6.92 ERA, allowing opponents to mash at a .339 batting average. The Padres boast a .240 team average and an 89.0 mph average exit velocity. They are primed to generate plenty of base hits and avoid the double play.
Mariners vs Padres Stats
Looking at the underlying metrics, Buehler holds a distinct advantage in run prevention. Buehler is holding opposing hitters to a .234 batting average, relying on a pitch mix that induces weak outs rather than hard contact. Castillo has struggled mightily, yielding over 13 hits per nine innings. The Mariners’ offense provides little run support, batting a miserable .173 on the road.
Given the pitching matchup, I am also backing over 8.5 runs. The over has cashed in 70.0% of the Padres’ last 10 games. With Castillo yielding heavy contact and the Padres missing key bullpen arms, traffic on the basepaths will be heavy, leading to a high-scoring affair.
Mariners vs Padres Props to Target
- Luis Castillo Over 4.5 Strikeouts (-132 at Bet365)
SPORTSBOOK
As for my favorite MLB props bet, I’m targeting Castillo over 4.5 Strikeouts. Despite his struggles with run prevention, Castillo’s swing-and-miss stuff remains intact. He averages 9.69 strikeouts per nine innings. Even if he gets chased early and gives up an RBI or two during a rough at-bat, he has the raw stuff to clear this low hurdle.

Mariners vs Padres Betting Splits
Moving over to the MLB public betting splits where the moneyline market shows a distinct preference for the home team. While 56.2% of tickets back the Padres to win outright, the financial commitment is significantly heavier, with 69.3% of the overall stake laying on the Padres.
There is zero debate regarding the game total. The over dominates the market, commanding 82.4% of tickets and an even higher 86.0% of the total betting handle. Both casual and sharp bettors are completely aligned here, anticipating plenty of runs.
