Pivetta ended his two-game losing streak and five-start winless drought his last time out by beating the Kansas City Royals on Sunday in Boston. He allowed three runs on seven hits in five innings with seven strikeouts and two walks.

In seven career games (six starts) against the Yankees, Pivetta has had his struggles with an 0-3 record and 8.78 ERA. He is 0-3 with an 11.57 ERA in three starts at Yankee Stadium.

Jose Trevino’s RBI single in the eighth inning broke a 4-4 tie and lifted the Yankees over the Red Sox on Friday night.

Aaron Hicks had two hits, two RBIs and a solo home run for the Yankees. Gleyber Torres hit a two-run double.

For the Red Sox, Verdugo hit a three-run homer and Tommy Pham had a solo shot. Verdugo and Kike Hernandez had two hits apiece.

Red Sox second baseman Christian Arroyo could return to the lineup Saturday after missing four games with a non-COVID illness.

Arroyo is also versatile.
