  • The Philadelphia 76ers seek fourth-straight road win when they take on the Clippers
  • Los Angeles has dropped four straight and seven of their last nine

The Philadelphia 76ers will likely take nothing for granted when they look for their fourth straight road win as part of an all-LA sweep.

That’s because their opponent, the Clippers, will be seeking a season sweep after overcoming a 24-point deficit to win in the last meeting between these two teams.

Playing in that underdog role virtually all season, LA will be again shorthanded against a fully healthy Sixers’ squad.

It’s part of the reason the road team are 5.5-point favorites when things tip off Friday night at 10:30pm ET at crypto.com Arena, in a game that can be seen live on NBA TV.

76ers Betting Analysis

Granted, Philadelphia is still a work in progress, but their potential for postseason success is a lot higher than playoff destruction with James Harden in the lineup.

The 76ers are now 9-3 in the 12 games Harden has played, and 10-4 in the 14 games since acquiring him. His impact can be seen on the offensive end, where the 76ers are now averaging 113.6 points per game, against the 108.7 points per game on the year.

Philly has really taken off from behind the three-point line, where they’re shooting 37.4% from downtown in their last 14, a mark that would currently rank first in the NBA.  The 76ers rank 10th in that category on the season.

Of course, the main offensive hub is still big man Joel Embiid, the current favorite in the 2022 NBA MVP odds. He had 30 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and three blocks in a 126-121 win over the Lakers last time out.

Since December 16, Embiid has been the team’s leading scorer in 40 of the last 43 games, with Tyrese Maxey the only other player as the high man for Philly.

Harden had 24 points and seven assists, while fellow starters Maxey (21 points, 5 rebounds. 7 assists) and Tobias Harris (20 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists) gave the 76ers a balanced attack against the sputtering Lakers.

Clippers Betting Analysis

The Clips have hit a rough patch in their schedule, as they’ve dropped four straight and seven of their last nine. Fortunately, they’ve done a lot of heavy lifting already, sitting comfortably in a play-in spot.

Los Angeles is alone in eighth, currently 36-38, but 4.5-games clear of the ninth-place Lakers, and five ahead of the 10th-place Pelicans with eight games to play.

The Clippers return home after taking a pair of road beatings against a pair of teams in the top six odds to win the Western Conference. They were routed 121-92 against the Utah Jazz Friday, and took a 127-115 thumping in Denver four days later.

A bright spot in these struggles has been the play of Terrence Mann. The wing has played a lead role with so many key guys out, averaging 18 points, 7.3 rebounds and 4.5 assists and shooting 46% from the field in the last four games.

He had 24 points — his second-highest total of the year — with eight rebounds and four assists against Denver.

There’s still little relief in sight, with long term injuries to Kawhi Leonard and Paul George (though PG has returned to practice), while trade deadline pickup Norman Powell is out with a foot injury. Guard Jason Preston (ankle) is also out, while Robert Covington (hand) will be a game-time decision.

76ers vs Clippers Prediction

The one difference from the 102-101 win on January 21 is the addition of Harden. Los Angeles was already down their superstars, but had seven players score in double figures, led by Reggie Jackson’s 19.

The Sixers are just 1.5 games back of the Miami Heat for top seed in the East, so expect a focused group, one that’s better at home than on the road.

Philly is owns the second-best winning percentage on the road at 24-11, the most wins in the East and third most in the NBA. They are also a solid 20-14-1 against the spread away from Wells Fargo.

The Clippers are just 16-19 ATS as the home team, and while the effort will be there, the 76ers’ superstars should be able to put this one away.
