As usual, Friday night is a feast of basketball action for NBA fans. Starting off with the Magic hosting the Raptors and the Mavericks facing the Wizards at 7:10pm ET, we’ve then got the Pacers in Boston to face the Celtics, who are priced as 15-point favorites.

With several teams looking towards the lottery and others tussling for playoff seeding, there are several hefty spreads across the board. San Antonio, for instance, is also favored by 15 against the Blazers. Elsewhere, the Pistons are favored by just four over the Thunder, and Sacramento is two-point favorites against the Rockets.

Despite a great record with Ja Morant sidelined, the Grizzlies are 7.5-point dogs as they host the league-leading Suns. The Clippers are in Milwaukee to face the Bucks with both teams coming off overtime games on Thursday night.

Friday’s games finish up with the Timberwolves in Colorado to face the Nuggets, and the Pelicans taking on the Lakers. LeBron James and Anthony Davis are hoping to return for Los Angeles, though Frank Vogel’s team are just 1.5-point favorites.

Expecting Another Big Night From Edwards

It’s fair to view Anthony Edwards as a streaky scorer at this point in his career. For this prop line, though, the most important thing is that he’s scoring 21 points per game for the season and has dropped 24 in each of his last two.

Edwards had a quiet-ish three-game run against Dallas and Phoenix. Facing elite defenses in Toronto and Boston, he has had two productive games, going 19-for-34 from the field and making nine of his 16 threes. The 2020 first overall pick now faces a Denver defense which ranks 25th over the last five games, and has given up 27 to Miles Bridges, 49 to Devin Booker and 24 to Terance Mann over that period.

The Nuggets are looking fatigued. Where the brilliance of Nikola Jokic has been able to carry the offense, and lead them to wins, the defense has clearly suffered.

Denver has never been a good team at protecting the rim with Jokic, even though his defense has improved considerably. Edwards takes 37% of his shots from the restricted area. This should be a matchup he excels in, just as he did when he dropped 38 on the Nuggets earlier this season. The over is a good bet here.

  • Pick: Anthony Edwards over 20.5 points (-108)

Mikal Bridges Keeps Producing

Mikal Bridges’ offensive role expanded when Chris Paul was out. He excelled taking more shots and creating more for himself off the bounce. While Paul has returned to oversee the offense, and Bridges has the ball in his hands less frequently, he’s still taking on a significant role.

Both the points and threes made lines look low here even against a Memphis defense which ranks top in the league since the break. Bridges has scored 15 or more in 11 of his last 15. While he’s gone just two-for-four from three over the last two, he’s also made two or more threes 11 times over the same period.

Memphis’ defense is led by great rim protection. They are second in opponent efficiency in the restricted area. They give up a fair amount of threes, and opponents are particularly lethal on corner threes – this is where Bridges will take a lot of his shots from.

Phoenix is more than comfortable scoring away from the rim (they are league leaders in mid-range quantity and efficiency). Bridges has developed his own mid-range game, and he’s one means for the Suns to get to the basket with his well-timed cuts when the Grizzlies’ bigs are focused on the pick-and-roll.

Bridges has passed these numbers on a regular basis of late. His usage drops slightly with Paul’s return, but the Point God isn’t taking that many shots. Either prop is good value on its own, but we’re going with the parlay.

  • Pick: Mikal Bridges over 14.5 points and over 1.5 threes (+178)
