With an NBA-best seven-game win streak in tow, the Cleveland Cavaliers (25-15, 10-7 away, 21-17-2 ATS) travel to Orlando for a date with the Magic (23-20, 14-6 home, 27-16 ATS) on Monday night at the Kia Center at 7:10 pm ET.

Up against an Orlando team that’s lost five of its last seven games, the visiting Cavs are slim favorites in Monday’s NBA odds.

Cleveland Cavaliers vs Orlando Magic Odds

Team Spread Moneyline Total
Cleveland Cavaliers -1.5 (-110) -120 O  215.5 (-115)
Orlando Magic +1.5 (-110) +105 U 215.5 (-105)

Cleveland is laying 1.5 points and is listed as a slight -120 road favorite on the moneyline. The game total of 215.5 is by far the lowest of the eight games on the NBA’s Monday schedule. (The next lowest is Charlotte vs Minnesota at 220.5.)

The Cavs’ win streak has moved the team up to fourth in the Eastern Conference standings. If the NBA playoff bracket were cemented today, Cleveland would meet the New York Knicks in a rematch of last year’s first round. Number-eight seed Orlando would square off with number-seven Indiana in the 7-vs-8 play-in game.

Cleveland’s Win Streak Full of Underwhelming Opponents

While it’s hard to criticize too harshly when a team has won seven straight games – including six ATS wins – Cleveland’s current streak includes wins over Washington (7-35) twice, San Antonio (8-34), Brooklyn (17-25), Chicago (21-23), and Atlanta (18-24). The only win over an over-.500 team in that span was a 135-95 rout of Milwaukee. But take that result with a grain of salt because Giannis Antetokounmpo wasn’t in the lineup.

It should also be noted that six of Cleveland’s wins on their current streak have come at home, where they’re 15-8 on the year. The Cavs are only 10-7 on the road after going 20-21 away last season.

Cleveland has moved into the top ten in Net Rating (+3.9, ninth) thanks to their defense. The Cavs are third in the NBA in Defensive Rating (110.8) but a mediocre 18th in Offensive Rating (114.7).

The Cavs’ recent skid has come despite missing key bodies. A preseason contender in the NBA Defensive Player of the Year odds, Evan Mobley (16.0 PPG, 10. 5 RPG) hasn’t played since Dec. 6 due to knee surgery. Second-leading scorer Darius Garland (20.7 PPG, 5.9 APG) is has been out since Dec. 14 with a broken jaw. Now Caris LeVert (16.0 PPG, 4.1 APG) is a game-time decision due to a wrist injury. LeVert missed Saturday’s 116-95 win at Atlanta.

Donovan Mitchell (27.8 PPG) had been picking up the offensive slack, scoring at least 31 points in three straight before an off night in Atlanta (18 points on 6-of-17 shooting).

Orlando Skids Amid Injuries

Just 4-8 in their last 12 and 2-5 in their past seven, the Magic have been feeling the sting of the injury bug. Second-leading scorer Franz Wagner (20.8 PPG, 5.7 RPG) missed nearly three weeks with a sprained ankle before returning in Saturday’s 105-87 win over the Heat, while Wendell Carter Jr (10.5 PPG, 6.7 RPG) was out from Jan. 3rd to 15th.

Joe Ingles and Jonathan Isaac both missed large swaths of time recently, but heading into Monday’s tilt with the Cavs, only Gary Harris (7.1 PPG, 1.9 APG) remains out.

The victory over Miami showcased what Orlando does best: lock-down defense. The Magic held the (full-strength) Heat to 37.5% shooting from the field and cleaned up the glass (44 rebounds to 36) while getting offensive contributions from a wide range of sources. Paolo Banchero led the team with 20 points, while all five starters finished in double-figures.

The Magic sit fifth in the league in Defensive Rating (111.2) and 24th in O-Rating (112.3). Their +1.1 Net Rating is good enough for 13th.

Despite a quiet night last time out, Mitchell’s over/under point total is in the 30s (30.5) in Monday’s NBA player props. Only two Magic are listed in the props as of publication time with Banchero the high man at 23.5.

Cavaliers vs Magic Prediction

The Cavs are riding high but as discussed their win streak is a bit deceiving; they have been beating up on bad teams. This isn’t a squad that’s tended to perform well on the road over the past year and a half. Orlando is healthy and has been rock-solid at the Kia Center so far this season.
