LaMelo Impresses Against Utah…Again

The last time the Hornets played Donovan Mitchell and the Jazz, it ended in a 138-121 loss for Charlotte. However, LaMelo Ball showed out in just his third game in the starting lineup. The second overall pick erupted for a career-high 34 points while also dishing out eight assists.

The Jazz defense simply couldn’t handle him, whether he was scoring or facilitating. Ball went 4-for-9 from downtown, while also using his nifty handles and quickness to get to the rim and finish. The Charlotte rookie has been in the starting lineup for nine straight games, and it looks as if he’ll be there for good if he continues to produce.

Ball is coming off a rough game against the Warriors on Saturday, in which he dropped just seven points. But after already having a massive night against the Jazz a couple of weeks ago, expect him to put up some numbers once again.

Ball is averaging 14.4 points per night, which is first among rookies. He’s collected over 17.5 points in four of his last seven games as well. He hasn’t had a big night across the board since February 8th against Houston, where Ball dropped 24 and dished out 10 dimes. Some of the youngster’s best games have come against top-tier opponents as well, including the Milwaukee Bucks, Philadelphia 76ers, and of course, the Jazz.

Expect Ball to bounce back from a poor outing on Saturday and replicate his last performance versus the top seed in the Western Conference.

  • Pick: LaMelo Ball Over 17.5 Points (-102)

Dame Continues to Make it Rain

When you think of the best three-point shooter in the NBA, Stephen Curry is certainly the first name that comes to mind. But Damian Lillard is absolutely right up there among the most elite shooters across the league. We’ve all seen what he’s capable of from anywhere past the perimeter, whether it’s a corner three or a deep bomb from the logo.

YouTube video

Lillard is shooting an impressive 38.5 percent from long range this season, while also averaging 30 points per game for the Blazers. He also attempts 11 three-pointers a night, which is the second-most in the association behind only Curry.

Lately, though, Dame has been on fire. He’s sunk seven threes in each of his last two games. The two appearances before that? Lillard drained five. That’s on an average of 14.5 attempts as well in Dame’s previous four contests.

Phoenix is one of the better teams at defending the three-ball, holding opponents to just a 34.7 percent clip, which is third-best in the league. But at the rate Lillard is chucking up shots from deep and converting right now, he’s very likely to sink over 4.5. Bet on the over.

Pick: Damian Lillard Over 4.5 Three Pointers (+100)
