  • LeBron-less Lakers continue 5-game road trip with stop in New York
  • Knicks coming off a loss to the Bulls Sunday night
  • The odds and matchups can be found below with a prediction

After a raucous evening in Detroit that saw LeBron James pick up just the second ejection of his 19-year career, the Los Angeles Lakers will head to New York to take on the Knicks.

James won’t be in action, as the NBA has suspended him one game for “recklessly hitting” Detroit Pistons center Isaiah Stewart in the face during their altercation in Sunday’s game.

It will be LA’s fourth stop on a five-game road trip, in a matchup of teams trying to stay within the top eight in their respective conferences.

Tip-off goes at 7:30pm ET from MSG, and can be seen live as part of TNT’s Tuesday double-dip.

The hometown Knicks are 3.5-point favorites, and soon, bettors will have a chance to wager on games like these in New York.

Lakers Without James Again

Missing LBJ in the lineup is not an uncommon occurrence for the Lakers early this season. He’s played just seven games on the year, and was ejected in the third quarter of the eighth game Sunday.

In this instance, the Lakers showed resolve to come back from that melee, absorbing  a 15-point 4th-quarter deficit to secure a 121-116 win. LA outscored the Pistons 37-17 in the fourth quarter.

Russell Westbrook nearly outscored Detroit himself in the final frame, with 15 points, six assists and five rebounds. Anthony Davis led the way with 30 points and 10 boards, with two blocks on rookie Cade Cunningham late to seal it.

Carmelo Anthony was big off the bench, scoring 18 points, including 5-for-8 from downtown. He’s averaging 14.2 points per contest in 11 November games, while shooting 42% from downtown.

At 9-9, LA sits in eighth in the West, with the Memphis Grizzlies and Minnesota Timberwolves in close pursuit.

Knicks Sliding Down East

After a scintillating 5-1 start to the season, the Knicks have crashed back to earth, losing seven of their last 11 to sit at 9-8, good for eighth in the East.

New York hasn’t been able to string consecutive wins together since the end of October. Their latest attempt failed in Chicago, when they lost they on the second night of a back-to-back, 109-103 to the Bulls.

Julius Randle had 34 points on 13-for-18 shooting for New York. No other Knicks starter finished in double-digit scoring. Alec Burks was the second-highest scorer, potting 13 points.

The Knicks shot just 41.7% from the field and just 7-for-27 from downtown (25.9%).

They will be down key pieces as well, as Derrick Rose (ankle), has been listed as doubtful for Tuesday. Mitchell Robinson entered the NBA’s concussion protocol after being hit in the face in Saturday’s win over the Rockets, while Taj Gibson is day-to-day with a groin injury.

LA vs New York Trends

Even with the many absences of James early in the season, the Lakers have been scoring the basketball at the 5th-best rate in the league at 109.9 points per game, while the Knicks are 16th at 107.3 points a night.

LA is porous defensively, as they rank 2nd-last in points allowed per game at 113.4 per night. The Knicks do rank fifth in the NBA in three-point shooting, and could take advantage in that category.

New York’s defense has also seen a dropoff from a year ago, when they were the league’s top scoring defense. This year, they rank 17th in points allowed, giving up 106.8 points per game.

As for betting trends, the Knicks are 4-1 in their last five games against Western Conference teams, while the Lakers are just 1-4 ATS in their last five road games. They are 1-5 ATS in their last six against New York.

Lakers vs Knicks Betting Prediction

Davis did show up on the injury report after Sunday’s win with a thigh injury, though he is listed as probable against the Knicks. Los Angeles is 4-6 in the 10 games James has missed this season, and they’re just 2-4 away from home on the year.

After such an emotionally charged game Sunday that needed a furious comeback, the Lakers haven’t shown the consistency to back up their best performances on the season. The win against the Pistons snapped a 3-game skid, and they’re just 2-4 across their last six games.

Look for Randle to win the matchup against AD in a battle of University of Kentucky alum. Despite a strong showing from ‘Melo, who will return to a place he’s done so much scoring, count on the home side showing up and handling the LeBron-less Lakers Tuesday night.

The Pick: Knicks -3.5 (-110)
