Orlando Magic Betting Trends

The Magic were thoroughly dominated by Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday, losing 139-117. Milwaukee connected on a season high 26 threes and routed the young Magic. Having said that, there are several reasons to be optimistic in Orlando.

Magic guard Cole Anthony dropped a season high 28 points in Wednesday’s loss and will look to keep his momentum rolling. Meanwhile, first overall pick Paulo Banchero continues to impress. Banchero has averaged 21.5 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 assists in two games against the Hornets this season.

Banchero was awarded the NBA’s Eastern Conference rookie of the month for February after producing 16.6 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game. He’s far and away the leader of the clubhouse in the NBA Rookie of the Year odds. The former Duke Blue Devil has paired nicely with second-year forward Franz Wagner. Banchero and Wagner will have to step up as Magic forward Jonathan Isaac will miss Friday’s game with a hamstring injury.

While the Magic have covered the spread in just four of their last ten games, Orlando is 6-0 against the spread after a loss of more than ten points this season.

Charlotte Hornets Betting Trends

LaMelo Ball’s ankle injury is a massive blow to the Charlotte Hornets development. However, the playoffs were out of reach for the Hornets regardless. Their final 18 games will be more about developing the youth and hopefully some consistency for this ball club.

Terry Rozier leads the Hornets with 21.4 points and 4.8 assists per game. Rozier and Kelly Oubre (19.7 points per game) will aim to lead this team to respectability down the stretch.

Unfortunately for head coach Steve Clifford, the Hornets are in the bottom third in the league in offensive rating (28th), defensive rating (22nd), points per game (22nd), and opponents’ points per game (27th).

Charlotte is just a bad basketball team. Most importantly for bettors, the Hornets have little reason to win games down the stretch. Charlotte’s 2023 first-round draft pick would go to San Antonio should it come outside the top 16 selections. Look for Charlotte to tank for Wembenyama down the stretch.

Magic vs Hornets Prediction

Make no mistake, neither one of these teams should be considered in the NBA championship odds. However, both are fun to watch. Friday’s Magic vs Hornets contest should be an end to end offensive showcase.

Having said that, the Magic have dominated the Hornets of late. As Orlando is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 meetings in Charlotte. Orlando has alternated wins and losses in each of their past ten contests. Look for that trend to continue on Friday in Charlotte.

Magic vs Hornets Pick: Orlando -3 (-110)
