Wednesday, March 23rd is a feast of NBA action with 11 games. Starting out east with the Knicks in Charlotte, the Pacers against the Kings and the Hawks in Detroit to face the Pistons, the schedule ramps up with a trio of cracking games at 7:40pm ET.

A Steph Curry-less Golden State is in Florida to face the Miami Heat, and the Dubs are underdogs after a Tuesday night loss. With Kyrie Irving available on the road, the Brooklyn Nets are narrow favorites against the Memphis Grizzlies, and the Boston Celtics host the Utah Jazz, with the Cs chasing a fifth straight win.

There’s a tank-off between the Magic and Thunder at 8:10pm ET, and the Suns matchup with the Timberwolves at the same time. It’s an all-Texas duel half an hour later – Dallas is favored comfortably over the Rockets despite several key men sitting out.

The night wraps up with a key contest in the race for the scoring title as Joel Embiid’s Sixers take on LeBron James and the Lakers. San Antonio is in Portland at the same time, too.

Smart Runs the Offense

Marcus Smart’s assists line is set at 5.5. He’s averaging 7.3 per game since the All-Star break, and he’s notched six or more in nine of his last 12 appearances. His assist rate has leapt from 22.6% pre All-Star to almost 29% across the last 12 games.

While Jayson Tatum has grabbed headlines for his scoring, and Robert Williams is getting some buzz in the DPOY odds, Smart has thrived in the role of nominal point guard. He’s being decisive with the ball, often moving it quickly to put the two wing stars in position to do their thing. The arrival of Derrick White has only benefited Smart too, with the former Spur helping to carry some of the playmaking workload.

Smart obviously isn’t the focus of the opposing defense. He is going to a draw favorable matchup on the perimeter, making it easier for him to attack off the bounce and make plays for others. It’s no secret that Utah’s perimeter defense is subpar – this is a game that Smart should be able to influence.

With some big assist numbers over the last few weeks, it was a surprise to see Smart’s line at 5.5. It was even more surprising to get plus odds. This is an easy over to back.

  • Pick: Marcus Smart over 5.5 assists (+118)

Jalen Green Keeps Scoring

Scoring 19.2 points per game since the All-Star break, Jalen Green has settled into the NBA. He’s turning it over less, he’s assisting more, and his relentless aggressiveness on offense is paying dividends. The second overall pick has passed this points line in 10 of 12 games in March.

Green is facing a Dallas team which has dropped off defensively of late, ranking around league average in defense since the break. Luka Doncic is sitting the game out too, which reduces the chance of a blowout in the Mavericks’ favor – Green has scored 16 or more in 17 of 20 games where he has played 33 or more minutes.

After a 48.1% true shooting prior to All-Star, Green is up at 57% since. It was a rough beginning to his NBA career, but we’re starting to see the Green that the Rockets hoped they had drafted.

This is a low number with how Green has been scoring of late, take the over.

  • Pick: Jalen Green over 15.5 points (+100)
