Wednesday marks the beginning of a three-game road trip for the Dallas Mavericks (9-7, 1-4 away) as they head East to face the NBA-best Boston Celtics (13-4, 6-1 home) at the TD Garden. The Mavs are coming off a nail-biter loss to Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets on Sunday, 98-97 at home. The C’s also lost on Monday to the Chicago Bulls, ending a nine-game winning streak.

The Celtics head into Wednesday’s matchup as a 4.5-point home favorite. They’re just 9-8 against the spread, though. Boston has moneyline odds of -194 for an implied win probability of 65.99%. Dallas sits at +162. A $100 bet on the visitors would earn you a profit of $162. The Mavs are a putrid 4-11 ATS and have won just once away from home.

However, Luka Doncic and Co. are unbeaten in four against the Celtics.

Mavericks Betting Trends

Dallas is just two games above .500 and outside of Luka, haven’t looked spectacular offensively. They rank 25th in PPG, 19th in three-point percentage, and 22nd in field-goal percentage. It’s on the defensive end where the Mavs are flourishing, ranking 5th in the Association.

Sunday’s defeat at the hands of Denver was by no means an efficient night from either team, with the Nuggets winning this one without Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray, and Aaron Gordon. Frankly, Dallas should be disappointed to not take advantage, but the squad just struggled to get going. Josh Green’s 23 points off the bench were a team-high. Doncic ultimately went for 22 points, nine rebounds, and eight dimes.

The Mavericks shot a bit better from deep, draining 36% of their triples. But, there just wasn’t enough production overall, also shooting a putrid 57% from the free-throw line. That certainly didn’t help. Injury-wise, Spencer Dinwiddie is questionable Wednesday and Maxi Kleber is doubtful, which means just more of a load on Luka’s shoulders.

Celtics Betting Trends

The Celtics have the best NBA championship odds and they definitely look the part early on in the campaign. Joe Mazzulla’s squad has the top offense in the league and ranks 2nd in PPG. A lot of their damage is coming from deep, shooting 39% as a team. Jayson Tatum is playing like a legitimate MVP candidate, averaging 30.2 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per night, while Jaylen Brown is also putting up over 25 points.

Their insane winning run finally came to an end Monday though, getting humbled by the Bulls, 121-107. While the C’s did shoot it well, Chicago bodied them down low, outrebounding Boston 51-38 and outscoring Tatum and Co. 44-34 in the paint. Tatum had another big night, posting a stat line of 28 points, 11 boards, and seven dimes. Brown and Malcolm Brogdon compiled 25 and 23, respectively, as well.

Returning home will make this group feel very confident. They’ve lost only one game at the TD Garden in 2022-23. However, Tatum is dealing with a mild ankle sprain and may miss out here. That could mean more of a role for Brogdon and White.

Mavericks vs Celtics Prediction

I’m a firm believer in trends, which is why I like Dallas ATS. Tatum is likely to sit out which provides the Mavs with an opportunity to grab a key road win or at least make it closer than the spread.
