  • The Miami Heat will visit the Philadelphia 76ers for the #7 seed in the Eastern Conference on Tuesday
  • The 76ers have opened as four-point favorites over the reining Eastern Conference champions
  • See the opening Heat vs 76ers odds for the 2024 Play-In Tournament

If the Miami Heat (46-36, 24-17 away) are going to repeat as Eastern Conference champions, they’re going to have to take the same difficult route they traveled last season, starting with the Eastern Conference Play-In Tournament. On Wednesday night, the Heat will visit the Philadelphia 76ers (47-35, 25-16 home) in the 7-vs-8 game, with the winner clinching the #7 seed and a first-round matchup with the #2 seed (either Milwaukee or New York). The loser will face the winner of Wednesday’s Hawks vs Bulls game on Friday for the #8 seed (and a first-round date with the #1 Boston Celtics).

The opening Heat vs 76ers odds list the Sixers as four-point favorites.

Sixers Enter Playoffs (Mostly) Healthy

Joel Embiid (34.7 PPG, 11.0 RPG, 5.6 APG) sat out the regular-season finale against Brooklyn on Sunday, but that was considered a precaution and the reigning NBA MVP is expected to be fully healthy for the start of the postseason. Embiid returned from a two-month absence on April 6 and Philly went 5-0 with him back in the lineup, including a 109-105 win at Miami. Embiid is averaging 30.4 PPG, 9.2 RPG, and 5.2 APG in 30.6 minutes per night in the month of April.

With Embiid out, Tyrese Maxey (25.9 PPG) had a team-high 26 points in the season finale against Brooklyn, an easy 107-86 Philly victory.

Heat Also Getting Healthy

Miami battled a rash of injuries almost all season, but are also trending towards full health as the postseason gets underway. None of Miami’s top-five scorers played more than 70 games during the regular season. Tyler Herro (20.9 PPG) and Jimmy Butler (20.9 PPG) played just 41 and 59 games, respectively, missing over a quarter of the year due to injuries.

Miami finished the regular season with a 118-103 home win over Toronto, led by 17 points and eight assists from Tyler Herro.

The Heat and Sixers split their four games this season, with Miami winning the first two and Sixers winning the two most-recent games.

The loser of this game will have home-court advantage in the final East Play-In game on Friday.
