The Portland Trail Blazers (42-40, 18-23 away) went into Phoenix and secured the #7 seed in the Western Conference. Their reward? A date with the #2 San Antonio Spurs (62-20, 32-8 home) in Round 1 of the 2026 NBA playoff bracket.

Despite entering with a big win under their belt, the Trail Blazers are major underdogs against the Spurs, who feature one of the finalists in the NBA MVP odds, alien Victor Wembanyama, who’s helped move the Spurs to the second-best NBA Championship odds.

There’s next to zero value taking the Spurs to win the series, as they are -2500 favorites. And as enticing as Portland +1100 is, that would be one of the mega upsets in NBA history — something that will likely not happen.

But, taking the Blazers to push this to six games might be worth considering, as it pays out at a nice +265, and Over 5.5 games in the series pays out at +270.

The only date we know for the best-of-7 series right now is the Spurs will host Game 1 from the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio on Snday, April 19, at 9pm ET, with NBC and Peacock carrying the broadcast coverage.

The Spurs took two out of the three matchups during the regular season, winning once at home and once on the road, with the Trail Blazers getting their lone win at the Frost Bank Center.

The notable betting line here is the Under, which hit in all three meetings, as neither team was able to score more than 115 points in any game of the series.

Like we noted in their stats, Portland use those key traits to upend the Suns 114-110 in the play-in game Tuesday. The Blazers shot 17-for-47 from 3-point range, and while they had the same hit rate as Phoenix at 36%, they outscored them by 24 points in that category.

They also worked the glass for 13 offensive boards, a big reason why they were able to attempt eight more shots in a game that was decided by just a few possessions.

Portland is ahead of schedule, but they have some things working for them, like athletic wings, a rotation of bigs that can block shots (or at least challenge at the rim), a veteran in Jrue Holiday that’s been there before, and a budding star in Deni Avdija.

Avdija just lit up the Suns for 41 points on 15-for-22 shooting, with 12 assists and seven boards. He’s a legit Top 15 scorer in the league.

San Antonio has just enough veterans to help steer the ship should they hit rough waters, but make no mistake: this is the first rodeo for Wembanyama and emerging star Stephon Castle. They should be fine, but they’ll be adjusting to playoff hoops on the fly.

Despite winning 62 games, I think it’s a little early to just have them run through Portland, who competed with them well during the regular season, holding them below their season scoring average in every game.

I like Portland to steal one of the first two on the road, and ultimately turn this into a best-of-3 series before fizzling out — but not before you get paid!
