The Denver Nuggets (48-24, 18-18 away) finish up their East-Coast road swing on Wednesday evening in DC against the Washington Wizards (32-40, 16-18 home) in a cross-conference matchup. The tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm ET at Capital One Arena.

Denver has been slumping as of late but did get back on track Sunday, beating the Brooklyn Nets 108-102 at the Barclays Center. Washington meanwhile lost their third game in a row on Tuesday, falling to the Orlando Magic.

Denver Looking to Finish Road Trip on a High Note

The Nuggets might have already locked up a playoff spot, but they’re just 5-5 in their last 10 games, even with Nikola Jokic balling out. For this current road trip, Denver is only 2-2 as well, losing to the Nets and Raptors while collecting wins against the Nets and Pistons. Grabbing another victory Wednesday is crucial before beginning a tough homestand.

Michael Malone’s squad looked well on their way to a blowout win in Brooklyn but proceeded to nearly give up a huge lead in the third quarter. Nonetheless, the Nuggets held on thanks to the brilliance of the Big 3. The Joker finished with 22 points, 17 rebounds, and 10 assists, while Michael Porter and Jamal Murray also poured in 25+ apiece.

The ball movement was spot on for Denver, dishing out 31 dimes which translated into countless good looks. The Nuggets shot 52% from the field and downtown. Other than 16 turnovers, this proved to be a solid performance from the West’s best team. With a 3.5-game lead at the top of the conference in the NBA Playoff Bracket, Denver is sitting pretty at the moment.

Wizards Are in Rough Shape

The Wizards are playing brutal basketball right now, winning just two of their last eight games. Although the final play-in spot is still realistically in reach, it’s hard to imagine Washington getting in if they continue to struggle like this. For example, Monday’s contest at Orlando should’ve been a win, but the young Magic outplayed them.

Wes Unseld Jr’s group allowed 120+ points for the second straight outing and were just frankly bodied down low. Orlando outrebounded them 42-33 and scored 52 points inside compared to 46 for Washington.

The Wizards shot a mere 31% from long range as well. Not exactly a recipe for success. Kristaps Porzingis did score 30 points but DC definitely felt the absence of Kyle Kuzma, who is dealing with an ankle sprain. It does look like he could be out for a while, which is brutal news for their play-in hopes. Kuz is a very important piece on both ends of the floor.

Nuggets vs Wizards Prediction

Denver is fresh off a great performance and has Washington’s number in recent memory. I don’t see any issues with them covering against a Wizards team missing one of their best players.

Pick: Nuggets -6.5 (-110)
