The Boston Celtics seem to be turning the corner after a dreadful start to their NBA season.

A date with the Toronto Raptors seems like an apt barometer, as they handed Boston its worst beating of the year in Game 2 of the campaign.

They’ll tip it off Wednesday night at TD Garden at 7:30pm ET.

Despite the Celtics down one of their best players, they’re still 2-point favorites against the visiting Dinos.

Raptors’ Recent Results

All things considered, it’s been a pretty good start for the Raptors out the gate. They’re 6-5, hanging in eighth in the East, while still trying to forge an identity with franchise icon Kyle Lowry now in Miami.

They dropped their second game in a row on Sunday, under a hail of buckets from Kevin Durant and James Harden, in a 116-103 loss.

A bottom-10 defender of the three-point line, the Raptors allowed the Nets to go 17-for-38 from beyond the arc, a lethal 44.7% mark they couldn’t overcome.

There were some encouraging signs, however. Pascal Siakam, out the first 10 games as he recovered from shoulder surgery, looked healthy in his season debut. The 2019 Most Improved Player potted 15 points on 5-for-12 shooting, with four rebounds and two blocks in 25 minutes of work.

For a team currently ranked 22nd in scoring at 104.7 points per game, another offensive weapon on the floor should help loosen things up for a team in the bottom 10 in both field goal (43.4%) and 3-point (33.2%) shooting.

It was also the second game back from a thumb injury for rookie Scottie Barnes, and he made an impact across the board, with eight points, seven rebounds, four assists and five steals.

Celtics’ Recent Results

After dropping five of their first seven games, the Celtics have finally started putting together better efforts.

Boston used stifling defense to douse the Magic and Heat in back-to-back wins. They held both Florida clubs to under 80 points, the first time all season they’d held an opponent to under 100 points in a game.

They were a Luka Doncic buzzer-beater away from going to overtime in Dallas, instead dropping a 107-104 decision last time out.

The C’s were missing all-star wing Jaylen Brown, who is out with a hamstring injury. He won’t be available for Wednesday night either, and he also has to deal with rumours that Boston is entertaining a trade for Ben Simmons, with Brown the centrepiece of the return trade package.

Boston’s other all-star, Jayson Tatum, poured in a team-high 32 points, along with 11 boards, two assists and two steals. Dennis Schroder added 20 points and six assists.

After sitting in the basement in points allowed, Boston is now into 24th, allowing 110.2 points a game. At 4-6, they are tied for 10th in the East with the Milwaukee Bucks.

Raptors Dominated First Meeting

Celtics’ head coach Ime Udoka was not impressed in his home debut, as the Raptors obliterated the Celtics 115-83.

Even if they were coning off a double OT season-opening loss in New York, Udoka didn’t mince words, saying Celtics got punked on the Garden floor.

It was a coming-out party for Barnes, who scored a season high 25 pints on 11-for-17 shooting, while adding 13 rebounds and a pair of assists. Every Raptor starter scored in double digits, including Gary Trent Jr, who had 20 points, along with five steals and three rebounds.

The Celtics were dominated on the glass by a 60-42 margin. The +18 advantage — including an incredible 21-10 edge in offensive rebounding — allowed Toronto to put up 18 more field goals in the game.

Nick Nurse’s club has been a perfect 4-0 away from Scotiabank Place. They’re also the only undefeated team against the spread on the road this year, also at 4-0. They’re 4-3 ATS as a betting underdog.

Boston hasn’t fared so well at home, they’re 0-3 both straight up and ATS with their road-heavy schedule to start the season. They are, however, 3-3 ATS as a betting favorite.

What’s the Best Bet?

The way the Celtics are playing right now should ensure there won’t be a blowout the second time around. The loss of Brown is a huge hole for Boston, not only for his offensive output, but how the Raptors can throw a bevy of long, athletic wing players at Tatum.

OG Anunoby, Siakam and Barnes will all get reps against JT, and how he fares will obviously play a big factor in how this shapes out.

I’m surprised the Celtics are favored, as this one seems like taking money, so let’s make our wagers and quietly move along.

The Pick: Raptors +2 (-110)
