Warriors vs Grizzlies Betting Analysis

The Warriors Game 1 victory featured a little bit of everything. Klay Thompson hit a go-head three with 36 seconds left in regulation, while Ja Morant failed to punctuate an incredible performance by missing a game-winning shot at the buzzer.

Thompson actually picked up Morant on the game’s final play forcing an errand shot, after Thompson missed two free throws moments earlier at the other end.

Draymond Green was ejected in the first half for a flagrant foul, but instead of demoralizing Golden State it helped fuel them. The Warriors overcame a six point halftime deficit, in large part to Jordan Poole, who’s making a case to be named the third splash brother.

The breakout performer of the playoffs so far for Golden State played a team-high 38 minutes, and led the team with 31 points, 9 assists and 8 rebounds. Poole, who had been starting as part of the Warriors new lethal small ball lineup, came off the bench in Game 1 but quickly established himself as a go-to option. He took just as many shots as Steph Curry (20) and attempted just as many threes (10) as Thompson.

Curry chipped in 24 points of his own, while Thompson finished with 15. Golden State shot 48% from the floor and 37% from three, while winning the rebounding, assist and points in the paint battles.

Morant finished with 34 points and 10 assists for the Grizzlies, while Jaren Jackson Jr. splashed a playoff career-high 33 points, including six three’s.

The Warriors have no won 20 of their past 22 Game 1 playoff contests, while Memphis dropped its second consecutive series opener. The good news for potential Grizzlies backers however, is Memphis rebounded in Game 2 of the First Round to beat Minnesota by 28.

Warriors vs Grizzlies Injury News

On the injury front, the Grizzlies will once again be without Steven Adams on Tuesday. Adams, the NBA’s leading offensive rebounder, is still stuck in the health and saftey protocols. Ziaire Williams, who also sat out of Game 1 with a knee injury has been upgraded to questionable for Tuesday, while Desmond Bane carries the same designation due to a back issue.

As for Golden State, Andre Iguodala remains out with a neck injury, while Thompson popped up on the injury report with a knee issue but is expected to play in Game 2.

Warriors vs Grizzlies Pick

Every one of the Warriors’ last five playoff games have produced at least 230 points. But before you go running to the window to bet the over on Tuesday, consider the following.

Oddsmakers have increased the Game 2 total by 7 points over the series opener. There’s an argument to be made that the Game 1 total was mispriced, but 7 points is an awfully big correction.

Golden State finished second during the regular season in defensive rating and we shouldn’t expect them to allow Memphis to hover around 50% from the field again like they did in Game 1.

Not to be outdone, the Grizzlies ranked sixth in defensive rating this season, and yielded 109 points or less in four of the final five games of the First Round.

Another reason to be skeptical of this game eclipsing the total is the pace and turnover percentage of the Warriors. Golden State ranked right around league average in pace, which likely surprises a lot of people who associate them with a run-and-gun offense. The Warriors also turned the ball over at the league’s second highest rate. That didn’t come back to bite them against Denver who ranked bottom-five in forced turnovers, but only two teams caused more giveaways than Memphis this season.

Pick: Under 227.5 (-110)
