American Eagles Betting Analysis

It’s going to be a vastly different atmosphere for American in this matchup compared to their last game. They’re going from playing in front of a crowd of just 478 at the New Jersey Institute of Technology to playing in a 20,000 seat arena against Georgetown.

Granted, we don’t expect the stands to be filled, especially with an 11:30 am ET start time, but still, it’ll be quite the contrast. Although they’ve broken the 70-point plateau just once this season, American is coming off two consecutive victories.

The Eagles have four returning starters and were picked to finish 7th in the 10-team Patriot League in the preseason. Sophomore, Elijah Stephens led the Eagles to victory in their last contest, scoring 14 points to go with five assists and five rebounds. The guard plays the most minutes of anybody on American.

Only two players average double digit point production on this squad, guard Colin Smalls (11.7 ppg) and forward, Matt Rogers (10.5 ppg). As you can imagine, the Eagles don’t really play at a high pace with an adjusted tempo of 66.6 according to KenPom, which ranks 311th in the nation.

If there’s one word to describe this season’s version of the Hoyas it’s inconsistent. That inconsistency doesn’t just range from game-to-game, but quarter-to-quarter. Last week they had a 10-point lead against Loyola Marymount before blowing it after yielding a 29-4 run.

You wouldn’t think they’d be capable of squandering that type of lead against American. The Hoyas haven’t lost to the Eagles since December of 1982, back in the days when Georgetown was a contender in the odds to win the NCAA Title.

The guards have really been the engine that drives this Georgetown offense though, with Primo Spears putting up 16.6 points and 3.8 assists per game and Brandon Murray averaging 15.4 points and 4.4 dimes per outing.
