Army Betting Outlook

Sophomore guard Jalen Rucker had one of his best games of the season in Army’s win over American as he scored 25 points.

It was the sixth 20-point game of the season for Rucker. He is having a fine all-round 2021-22 season with averages of 15.8 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.9 assists a game.

Rucker helped pace an Army offense that shot 58.8% (30 of 51) from the field.

Sophomore forward Matt Dove added a season-high 14 points for just his second double-figure game. He also finished with six rebounds.

Junior forward Chris Mann added 11 points, his second straight game in double digits after reaching that level just three times in the first 16 games of the season.

Senior guard Josh Caldwell, who has been doing a little bit of everything for the Black Knights this season, added 10 points and seven rebounds. He is averaging 12.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.8 steals.

Army needed the hot shooting as American made half its 54 field goal attempts and drained 8 of 20 three-pointers for 40.0%. Army did force 15 turnovers.

The Black Knights have been worth backing this season with their 10-6-1 record against the spread, though they are just 3-5-1 on the road.

Navy Betting Outlook

Poor shooting hurt Navy in its loss to Lehigh. The Midshipmen were 24 of 70 (34.3%) from the floor and 5 of 18 (27.3%) from long distance.

Senior guard Greg Summers was Navy’s top scorer with 12 points. He has reached double digits in seven of the last eight games.

Summers is averaging 10.6 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists.

Senior guard John Carter is Navy’s leading scorer with a 13.4 average. However, he had a rough shooting night Wednesday, making just 3 of 14 field goal attempts and finishing with 11 points and six assists.

Junior forward Daniel Deaver chipped in with 10 points and seven rebounds.

Navy struggled with its perimeter defense, allowing Lehigh to shot 50.0% (7 of 14) from outside the arc. That was a bit of an aberration as the Midshipmen are 83rd nationally in KenPom’s adjusted defensive efficiency, allowing 98.2 points per 100 possessions.

Navy is 3-4 ATS at home but 11-6 overall.

Army vs Navy Pick

Army has won three of the last four games in the series and most recent one was a classic as the Black Knights won 87-78 in overtime last Jan. 21 in Annapolis. Rucker had 18 points for Army, which also got 15 points and five rebounds from Caldwell.

Look for another hard-fought contest this time, which makes Army a good choice at +8.5.

  • The Pick: Army +8.5 (-110)
