An exhilarating few days of Southern Conference tournament action caps off on Monday, March 6th when the top seeded Furman Paladins (26-7, 17-13 ATS) play the league’s dragon slayers, the Chattanooga Mocs (18-16, 14-16-1 ATS) at the Harrah’s Cherokee Center.

Chattanooga Mocs Look to Win Back-to-Back SoCon Titles
This game will be a rematch of last year’s tournament final where the Mocs slid by the Paladins 64-63 in the final. In contrast to last season, Furman are the top seed and chalk this time around.
While the Mocs ran a solid offense all season, their shooting has been lights out en route to the final. All three of their opponents have had to deal with a Mocs side that shot at least 50% from the floor. Overall, Chattanooga is shooting 54.8% from the field over the last three days.

Senior center, Jake Stephens has presented significant matchup issues in the tournament so far. Standing 7 feet tall, Stephens has averaged 22.3 points per game and scored at least 20 points in each of the Mocs tourney matchups so far.
Furman Paladins Squeeze by in Tournament Semifinals
Down but not out are words to live by for the SoCon’s top seed. With the Paladins down three and under two minutes remaining in overtime against Western Carolina in their semifinal clash, Mike Bothwell came to the rescue. The fifth-year senior scored the next five points for the Paladins to draw even before sophomore JP Pegues put Furman up for good, converting a pair of free throws with under 30 seconds left.
It wasn’t pretty, especially considering the Paladins were 12.5-point chalk, but in the end, they got it done. Expectations are that Furman should easily handle Chattanooga after surviving their tournament scare, especially considering how easily they handled the Mocs in two meetings this season.

Although their not a serious threat in the odds to win the NCAA tournament, Furman does boast an offense that compares to some of the best programs in the nation. Four games in four days might not be easy, but it appears as though this Chattanooga squad wants to keep the ball rolling as they look for an improbable berth in the big dance.
Furman led the conference in points per game, averaging 82 a night. That was good enough for 16th in the nation, but this Chattanooga team has shown they can keep pace and are averaging 78 point per outing in their last nine games and are averaging over 83 per game for the tourney.
