The Maryland Terrapins have mostly been winning but they haven’t been wowing anyone. As for the Richmond Spiders, they’re living an up and down existence.

At 4-1, the Terps show a two-point win over Hofstra and a seven-point verdict against George Washington. Maryland also lost to George Mason.

Richmond 3-2, won the first, third and fifth games played. The Spiders were beaten in their second and fourth games of the season.

As these schools meet on Thursday in the Thanksgiving Baha Mar Hoops Bahamas Championship, it’s the Terrapins who are set as 1.5-point favorites over the Spiders. Maryland is just 1-4 against the spread this season.

Maryland Terrapins Betting Trends

Maryland was ranked #20 in the nation. Then just over a week ago, the Terrapins were upset 71-66 by George Mason and they tumbled out of the rankings.

The Terps trailed by as much as 10 points as the Patriots beat Maryland for the first time ever and toppled a ranked team for the first time since 2007.

Maryland is proving to be a real Jekyll and Hyde team early in the season. The Terrapins also trailed Vermont 36-32 at halftime before rallying for a 68-57 victory. Maryland held the Catamounts to just eight points over the final 8:57 of plays.

Richmond Spiders Betting Trends

The Spiders are an experienced bunch. All five starters are upper classmen.

Junior forward Tyler Burton (19.8), graduate forward Grant Golden (17.6), and graduate guard Jacob Gilyard (11.1) are all scoring in double figures so far this season. Burton leads the Atlantic-10 in scoring so far this season. He’s also sixth in the nation from long range, hitting 58.6% of his 3-point field goals.

Known as a defensive dynamo, Gilyard has 375 steals during his career. That ranks third all-time in NCAA history. He’s 10 steals away from being #1 in NCAA history.

The Spiders are just 1-4 in their last five games against Big Ten opposition. Richmond has scored at least 70 points in all five games this season. The Spiders are averaging 77.80 points per game.

Terrapins-Spiders Prediction

There’s already a head to head comparison for this matchup. Richmond beat Hofstra by 13 points, whereas Maryland edged the Pride by two points. The Spiders fought back from a 44-40 halftime deficit to topple the Pride.

This will be Maryland’s first road trip of the season. The Terps opened with five straight home games.

Maryland is 40th in the NCAA in rebounding, grabbing 42.2 boards per game. The Terrapins are 4-0 when they win the rebounding battle.

The total has gone under in four of Maryland’s five games this season. In terms of the total, the under has also been the correct play in eight of Richmond’s last 11 games.
