Michigan State Betting Outlook

Michigan State led Gonzaga by 12 points with 17 minutes left but couldn’t hold on and lost by one.

Junior forward Mady Sissoko played well. He had 14 points and nine rebounds in 25 minutes before fouling out.

Through two games, Sissoko is averaging 9.0 points and 7.5 rebounds. He is one of six Michigan State players scoring at least 8.0 points a game.

Junior guard A.J. Hoggard is the top scorer with a 10.5 average to go with 7.0 assists and 2.0 steals a game. Against Gonzaga, he tallied 12 points, six assists and three steals.

The only other Spartans player with a double-digit scoring average is senior forward Joey Hauser at 10.0. He also is pulling down 5.5 boards a contest.

Against Gonzaga, senior guard Tyson Walker scored 12 points and senior forward Malik Hall added 11 points and seven rebounds.

Michigan State made just 3 of 16 (18.8%) three-point field goal attempts and had 16 turnovers. However, the Spartans forced Gonzaga into 18 giveaways and held the Bulldogs to 22.2% (4 of 18) shooting from distance.

Kentucky Betting Outlook

Kentucky is off to a 2-0 start despite missing senior forward Oscar Tshiebwe, last season’s unanimous national player of the year. He underwent a knee procedure in October and is questionable for Tuesday.

In 2021-22, Tshiebwe averaged 17.3 points and 15.3 rebounds.

Kentucky is winning in Tshiebwe’s absence, though, because of a balanced scoring attack. The Wildcats have five players average double figures.

Senior guard Antonio Reeves has scored 40 points in his first two games. A transfer from Illinois State had a team-high 18 points against Duquesne with four three-pointers.

Senior guard CJ Fredrick also drained four triples as he finished with 11 points as Kentucky shot a sizzling 57.9% (11 of 19) from beyond the arc. Fredrick has season averages of 17.0 points and 3.0 assists after being limited to only one game in 2021-22 because of a hamstring injury.

Junior forward Jacob Toppin is stuffing the stat sheet with averages of 11.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals. Freshman guard Cason Wallace has shined early with 11.5 points, 6.5 assists and 2.0 steals a game.

After sitting out the season-opening win over Howard, senior guard Sahvir Wheeler had 11 points, 11 rebounds, six rebounds and two steals. He led the SEC in assists last season.

Kentucky outrebounded the Dukes 46-35 with freshman forward Ugonna Onyenso getting 10 caroms. The Wildcats had 15 turnovers but limited Duquesne to 30.3% (20 of 66) shooting from the field.

Sophomore forward Daimion Collins could make his season debut after missing the first two games following the death of his father.

Michigan State vs Kentucky Prediction

Kentucky has won the last two games in the series, including 69-62 during the 2019-20 in the Champions Classic, which was played at Madison Square Garden. With Tshiebwe’s status iffy and the emergence of Sissoko, look for Michigan State to hang tough.

Pick: Michigan State +7 (-110)

CBB Season Record: 2-2 ATS
