Michigan State Betting Outlook

Michigan State had a wild win over Maryland on Tuesday. The Spartans broke out to a 15-0 lead, fell behind 48-44 with nine minutes left, and then rallied.

Michigan State had a strong defensive effort as it held the Terrapins to 39.2% (20-of-51) shooting overall and 3-for-22 (13.6%) on three-point tries. Meanwhile, the Spartans made 45.0% (9-of-20) of their three balls.

Guarding the perimeter has been a strength for Michigan State. The Spartans are 17th nationally in three-point percentage allowed (29.4) and 50th in overall field goal defense (41.0%).

Senior forward Joey Hauser led Michigan State with 20 points. It was the fifth time he reached that mark this season.

For the season, Hauser is averaging 13.3 points, 7.1 rebounds and 2.0 assists a game.

Senior guard Tyson Walker has a team-high 13.9 scoring average. On Tuesday, he finished with 17 points and three assists.

Junior guard A.J. Hoggard got close to a triple-double with eight points, 10 rebounds and eight assists. He is second in the Big Ten in assists with a 5.8 a game while also averaging 12.3 points and 3.9 rebounds.

Ohio State Betting Outlook

Brice Sensabaugh had one of his worst games for Ohio State in Thursday’s loss to Northwestern.

The freshman forward scored a season-low four points in 16 minutes. He was just 1-of-8 from the field and had four turnovers.

Sensabaugh is averaging a team-high 16.7 points and 5.5 rebounds a game. He has not started in the last two games, though.

Senior forward Justice Sueing scored 19 points and 7-of-11 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds. Freshman guard Bruce Thornton added 12 points and three assists. Junior forward Zed Key contributed eight points and 10 rebounds.

Ohio State shot 50.0% (24-of-48) and held a 35-24 edge in rebounds. However, the Buckeyes were an ice-cold 1 for 14 (7.1%) from beyond the arc and committed 15 turnovers.

Conversely, Northwestern shot 41.4% (12 of 29) from long-distance.

Sueing is averaging 12.7 points and 5.0 rebounds and Key’s averages are 11.4 and 7.8.

The Buckeyes are 50th nationally in three-point defense (31.0%).

Michigan State vs Ohio State Prediction

Ohio State has won two of the last three games in the series, including 80-69 at home last March 3, after losing the five previous meetings.

While Michigan State has not lived up to expectations this season, it still seems odd that struggling Ohio State is favored in this game. Taking the points is the way to go here.

Pick: Michigan State +3.5 (-110)

Season record: 26-24 (-0.4 units) ATS, 3-7 (-3.5 units) ML
